The Last of Us Part II, which was originally scheduled to be released for the PlayStation 4 later this month, has entered the final stages of its development, as Naughty Dog is putting the finishing touches on the highly-anticipated sequel ahead of its new May 29 release date.

On Tuesday, the developers behind the upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive provided an update on The Last of Us Part II, which seemingly confirmed that the game won’t be delayed again.

“We are thrilled to say that we’ve entered the final stretch of production and are putting the finishing touches on The Last of Us: Part II as you read this,” said Naughty Dog regarding the upcoming follow-up to their 2013 survival-horror game. “The end of development puts us one very large step closer to launch. We know all of you have been so patient over the last few years, so it’s been thrilling to see our game taking on its final shape and knowing that means it will be in your hands soon.”

Also on Tuesday, it was revealed that a demo for The Last of Us Part II will be at PAX East from February 27 to March 1, as those who attend the event will be able to play the upcoming Sony exclusive before it gets released in a few months.

The PAX East demo will feature one hour of gameplay, where Ellie and Dina venture outside of Jackson to clear the infected in its surrounding areas.

After it was revealed that The Last of Us Part II will be heading to PAX East later this month, Sony released a dynamic PlayStation 4 theme for their upcoming sequel, which is free to download if you use the codes shown below.

It’s unclear how much of the PAX East gameplay will be shown during or following the event later this month. Of course, Naughty Dog showed clips from a gameplay demo back in September, as they revealed new enemy types and gameplay mechanics. So, they’ll probably do more of the same after the upcoming Boston-based convention concludes on March 1.

Even though we’re coming closer to the next generation of consoles, there’s been no news regarding The Last of Us Part II being released on the PlayStation 5, but a PS5 remaster does seem likely given that the original’s release date is just a few months before the current generation ends.

As of right now, The Last of Us Part II is scheduled to be released for the PlayStation 4 on May 29.
