One of the more iconic villains in the Mortal Kombat universe has to be Kano. When he appears on screen, your eyes immediately are drawn to his cybernetic metal face-plate. It features his infrared laser eye, a signature characteristic that stands out better than most MK characters.
Many fans were hoping he would be in Mortal Kombat 11, the newest installment of the series. He indeed will be as NetherRealm Studios confirmed him as a main character in a recent trailer reveal they put on YouTube.
The first glimpses show a younger Kano, sporting an epic beard and mustache. He isn’t fitted with that much armor, instead featuring more muscles and hair. This version of Kano looks absolutely jacked, which is fitting given that he’s one of the deadliest mercenaries and crime bosses Earthrealm has ever seen.
His voice is particularly charming. He has an Australian accent that you can’t help but notice right away. His looks and voice are on point, but how do his moves stack up against the competition?
Thankfully, he still has his spinning ball attack that stretches across the stage. It’s honestly one of the best long-distance moves, save for maybe Raiden’s voltage attack. He also can shoot laser beams out of his chest, which should make for some predictable spamming sequences that Mortal Kombat is known for.
Another highlight of Kano’s trailer reveal is his beautifully crafted dagger. It can be thrown at varying distances and even driven through opponents’ arms. Words can’t do it any justice. It’s a weapon you simply have to see in action. As if this dagger wasn’t enough, Kano can make use of his metal plate like never before. In many sequences, we see him headbutting his opponents in brutal fashion.
All in all, Kano seems to be a pretty formidable opponent. He’s always had a distinct look. His attempts to defeat his arch rivals, Jax Briggs and Sonya Blade, have also been amusing over the years. It will be interesting to see what part Kano has in this story. There have been trailers of him sporting a huge mini-gun, raining down fire on Sonya and Cassie Cage.
Hopefully, Mortal Kombat 11 utilizes him a lot in the main storyline. He’s such a good antagonist, featuring a sharp wit and ruthless fighting tactics. If this trailer reveal is anything to go off of, Kano is shaping up to be an amazing villain to play with.
