The Monster Hunter presented a new armor that carries the motif of the razor-edged Seregios, and the very fact that people had been grinding since day one was met with two sides of dilemma. The Seregios α and β hunter armor sets, in addition to Felyne Seregios α for the Palicos, are out now, but the community had mixed reactions to Capcom lowering the drop rates for rare materials.
Now let’s talk armor. The Seregios sets look classically slick and were designed with the thought of “I survived getting shredded by a flying pinecone dragon” in mind. Now, some people are comparing the chest and gauntlets to Gore Magala’s armor, which is a compliment since the said armor is totally iconic in itself. And finally, no more gender-locked pieces of armor: everyone can wear this fabulous spiky look!
The materials, though, are a serious grind. Like Lagiacrus before him, Seregios’ rarest drops are locked behind the Tempered variant, so there’s extra work to earn the glamour. Some gamers are strange enough to cling to nostalgia for the atrocious drop rates of yore-An afflicted memory of a player, for instance, harking back to the days of hunting Silver Rathalos 30 times for one Ruby. Others, in contrast, could hardly have cared less.
An answer shouted for optional quests for every monster so banned accounts could also farm; others simply said, “Fix the PC version.” PC performance issues have been a sore point for some time now, and this update definitely didn’t fix that. Streamers such as Spookzie Punzie even made mention that the game does not run smoothly still, which makes it hard to even enjoy, much less showcase, the new content.
It appears that investigations were all the rage, with some longing for the old system whereby some quests yielded guaranteed rare drops, while others have worn down on the grind. “We won’t hunt it longer than a day,” joked a player, basically stating that Capcom should put effort into real content drops instead of messing with drop rates.
Now, not everybody is salty. Bunches of hunters are hyped to face Seregios again, going as far as calling it their “all-time favorite monster.” And we cannot forget about the Palico armor-anyone who loves to dress their cat companion up like a tiny deadly knight.
But suggestions for drop rate changes are anything but new; all we’ve ever heard is how it was better in one age or worse in another. There will always be either a thinly veiled complaint about grind or outright off-the-charts antagonist campaigning. So to me, it’s really a winning scenario to provide players with a grind, whether it’s something they relish or just want to look good without the bother. So, Seregios is back, and you will have more than enough time to work for that drip.
