A cryptic Monster Hunter tweet showed a pair of razor-sharp claws, in the caption, “Get a load of THESE claws! 🐾 👀,” and boom, the internet exploded. The claws, actually, turned out to belong to Juri from Street Fighter, causing yet another inter-Pale agonistic union between Capcom’s beloved franchises. While some are hyped, others… are not.
First thing’s first: shall we really get to the actual tease. There’s a shot showing it to be layered armor or weapon designs inspired by Juri’s style-sharp, sleek, and unmistakably deadly. With Monster Hunter’s recorded collaborations with Street Fighter (I mean Ryu and Sakura armor sets?), it was never that unexpected. And then again, not everybody is crazy over it.
It’s a battlefield of opinions in the replies. Some, like @HakkaiOni, are totally for it: “Eeeyy let’s go I love street fighter looking foward to this one!” On the other hand, here comes @pluesch_puschel with the cold shoulder: “So we get an armor most people don’t care/know about… meh ok. From all the cool Capcom Games we get the most boring 🥲🫠.” Ouch.
Other voices cry out for other collabs: “@kokisaurus,” bluntly asked, “Dark souls or elden ring collab when,” and @joemesh9717 was bemoaning. “I’ll never forgive them for not doing a Darkstalkers collab in Sunbreak.” And honestly? Fair. Capcom owns SO many iconic IPs—why throw Morrigan or Dante in?
Nevertheless, Monster Hunter and Street Fighter collabs just aren’t random. As @HakkaiOni put it: “Everyone hating obv dosent know these collabs are guaranteed they have made last SF collabs in the past since they own the IP aswell.” To put it short, the Street Fighter crossovers are an easy win for Capcom, ones they will keep churning out with or without any clamour from the fans.
But aside from the choice of its subject, @theNightox appeared to take issue with the manner in which it was executed: “A low effort layered armor that clashes with the existing artstyle? Can‘t wait!” And, you know what? That voice of dissent deserves to be acknowledged. Monster Hunter aesthetic is well defined and not all crossovers tick working well.
Meanwhile, some fans are pretty much… over it. @cyberjesus42 went on to complain more about how easy it is to get everything in Monster Hunter as compared to the older installments: “I got all the armors in the game and I’m done with everything, I played the game for 100 hours, this is nothing compared to other games and that’s the problem.” To which @stupidpaolumu retorted: “You control the buttons you press, you can farm any monster you like… if you willingly farm only arkveld then thats a you problem.” Drama!
In the end of the day, the going down of Monster Hunter crossovers means different things to different people. Some fans will just take it in stride, others will demand something different, and there are still others who will be throwing their complaints from one end or the other. Well, at least it’s not another Fortnite one, that’s for sure.
So, what’s on the horizon now? If history were to repeat itself, this Juri-styled gear would most likely be implemented sometime soon in a patch with an event quest. Who knows? Maybe Capcom sneaks in a Resident Evil or Mega Man crossover just to keep it fresh. Till then, sharpen your claws and go hunting… or maybe don’t. Your call.
