French publisher Microids and IMPS have announced a new video game based on The Smurfs is now in the works. The game will be a new 3D action-adventure game developed by Osome Studio with a brand new story. \n \nPeyo's comic book series will inspire the game itself. The Smurfs was first created over 60 years ago and has brought multiple generations together. The comic has since been adapted into a cartoon series and, most recently, 3D films. Although the series first launched decades ago, the characters are well-known across the globe. \n \nSeveral video games for The Smurfs have also been released since 1982. The last game was a browser game called The Smurfs and Co: Spellbound released in 2013. Two years after the game launched, it was no longer available. It's been several years since a new game starring The Smurfs has been released. \n \n \n \nThe development team is working to ensure their game is as faithful to the original material as possible. Fans of the series can expect tons of action plus humor, friendship, suspense, and more. \n \nThe Smurfs game will have solo and co-op gameplay and feature some of the most iconic characters from the IP. \n \nVéronique Culliford, president and founder of IMPS and daughter of Peyo, commented about the collaboration, stating: \nI am very happy about this beautiful partnership, video games have always been my passion, because they combine playfulness and often learning. \n \nThe developer, OSome Studio, is an indie studio located in France. Their first tile was a survival horror game titled White Night that launched in 2015. \n \nThe studio went on to develop games in a completely different genre and based on popular comic strips. Asterix & Obelix XXL 3 and XXL2, which were published by Microids. The games were created using the studio's own engine for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. \n \nThe Asterix & Obelix games are based on the comedy comic series created by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo. The series continues today, with 38 volumes released so far. \n \nThe Smurfs has also continued to tell tales for fans both young and old to the series. The most recent release was Smurf Salad in October 2019 from Papercutz graphic novels. \n \nFans of The Smurfs will have to wait for more information to be revealed regarding the upcoming game. Since the announcement was recently made, there's not much information out yet, including which platforms the game will launch on and the release window.
