A fleeting update about Kingdom Hearts IV by Square Enix has sent the fandom into profuse pandemonium. On Twitter, the official Kingdom Hearts account uploaded a message stating that the team is “working hard” on KH4 and that the team hopes “it living up to expectations.” That was it. That was the whole tweet. Replies to this, then, are hyped and skeptical and bickering about whether KH3 was really good; classic KH fan behavior.
Let us just intro what actually is out there: While it has just been foretold, even two years ago, the tweet confirms that it is currently in development. At least, it is not Radio Silence! Because wait…there is a second half of this thread (of course there is)? It hasn’t dropped yet; was it something more, or are they just holding onto it for one of those KH cutscenes that better could’ve been an e-mail? In any way, the fans have been overanalyzing every crumb, and honestly? Same.
The real show is within the replies, as can be expected. Some of the people are, like, completely psyched; @DragonUp_ put it best: “Oh we finna EAT,” mood. On the other side, @d_breezy00 begged: “I NEED IT PLEASE. Only Kingdom Hearts IV can save me.” Dramatic? Maybe. Relatable? Probably. Meanwhile, @wabewayz jokingly warned (or was it a serious warning?): “10 more years…” because, honestly, KH fans have been trained to anticipate those nagging waits.
But there are nonvibes to weigh in. Bottom-line: The debate over KH3 had to erupt right at that moment. @Day___24 stormed in yelling KH3 was “ass,” which kicked off a whole thread in debating if KH3 ReMind saved it or if KH2FM stands still at the undisputed throne. @ChriGartner sided for KH3 without much thought, claiming the data-fights “clear” KH2FM. Whereas @RobbieB42891172 just wants to finally lower the cringe factor and pleaded for Japan to “socialize more” so their dialogue does not feel like a cold shower. Fair enough.
Also there were the Switch port pleas (@red_rush1 begging for a full cart release over cloud) and the classic graphics debate (@GorouCOOL missing the cartoony style, @8stl4x calling out the new faces). And no one can forget @AchsuallyBeej’s specific, unique diss: “Please don’t show too much like you guys did with 3.” Because nothing quite screams traumatized KH fam quite like too much exposure.
So what next? Probably more standing around. Square takes their sweet time, especially with KH4, which is still deep in development. But hey, they at least said something, which is more than we got during the KH3 drought. Will the real thing ever be able to live up to those Everests of expectation? Now that’s the actual big question. Until then, let’s just say every crumb gets sniffed out and followed by incessant fighting in the replies. Because that is just how Kingdom Hearts flows.
Or really? Same energy. We’re basically all here waiting for Sora to yell ‘friend’ at some random thing while wearing preposterously complicated shoes. Bring on the chaos.
