They recently released a whole new Patch 2.2.1 for Diablo IV, and, uh, the reaction was far from being enthousiastic. The Diablo account posted the official uplifting message: “Every battle is a new chance to prove yourself ⚔️”, but the people are not buying it. The replies have been filled with complaints about game-breaking bugs and crashes, not to mention other grievances about the patch.
For one, it was supposed to fix things… Imagine! It was found by angry players to be bringing in some new bugs while leaving a couple of old ones standing. Another one, Black Star ASMR declared during the stream: “Every new patch is a new chance to prove the incompetence of the Diablo 4 team.” Ouch. Others kept on saying that Loyalty’s Mantle somehow never reduced cooldowns (which is kinda its whole purpose), random disconnects made the build so weak that they might as well cease to exist…
About the crash bans! According to one player, Jack Emery, the crashes occur every one or two minutes after the reinstall, which is so insane considering the setup is a beast rig with RTX 5080. How is that even possible?! Another player, Frungencio Palotes, said the game has been broken since launch and Diablos IV wouldn’t be around in two years if Blizzard didn’t do the fix.
And do you believe that there is more? Sometimes, players report that the Belial mission remains on their map as completed when it should not be, mythic uniques suddenly cannot be found, and group finder just… fades away. Do not forget about those invisible characters! Because there couldn’t be a more polished game than one that lets your hero go invisible amidst combat!
But one has to say that the bleakness is not shared by all. Some, by contrast, like Kadath Studio, swear that they have only been itching to jump in and start testing the changes. Still, whatever quality feedback exists is being drowned in a sea of bad. Let me throw out some of the best: “MOST boring shit to date.” Ouch.
So what’s the deal? Is this patch just a disaster, or are the players really fussing? Hard to say, really: On the one hand, these always end up with shaky updates. But with multiple people reporting the same game-breaking bugs, this one really can’t be dismissed as whining.
If I say one thing: Blizzard needs serious damage control work. Whether it gets you with a rollback or hotfixes or some form of rude awakening for Blizzard remains to be seen. But should the Diablo IV team drag its feet and botch this, it would be a quick goodbye to whatever shred of community remains.
And hey, if you’re out there still, good luck: You’re going to need it.
