The release of Overwatch 2 is less than a week away, and in a new blog post, Blizzard has provided information regarding upcoming improvements to the game’s competitive mode. As was discussed earlier in the week, new players to Overwatch will not get immediate access to the game’s competitive mode; rather, they will be needed to compete in fifty matches of rapid play before the choice is made available to them.

However, it will not be the only adjustment that Blizzard will make to the game’s competitive scene. In addition, alterations are being made to various aspects of the game, most notably the user interface, skill degradation, awards, and SR.

The elimination of the SR measure represents one of the most significant alterations to the game’s competitive mode. Skill Tier Divisions will be implemented in Overwatch 2, taking the place of SR. Each tier, from Bronze up to Grand Master, will have five different divisions to choose from.

Tier Divisions, according to Blizzard, represent the same skill levels as SR, but they provide players with a more in-depth picture of where they stand in the Competitive bracket. Each division is about equivalent to a range of one hundred SR. Because the firm wants players to feel less stress when they lose a single match, they have decided to stop giving players updates after every one of those matches. Instead, updates will be published after every seventh triumph or every 20th loss. Whichever comes first.

Players who take a break from the game for an extended period may see a drop in their internal matchmaking rating, which will help us reevaluate and identify their current skill level. However, Blizzard will boost or reduce that rating more quickly, so players may anticipate returning to their customary placement within a reasonable amount of time.
