A full-scale-level invasion to the likes that cannot even be stopped by the Heart of Democracy.” The patriotic emergency was declared with the tweet in all-caps, and the players are going berserk in the reply section.
Okay, so what is really going on here? The fleets of the Illuminate, these damn alien squid-a-technicians from the first game, from the Meridia Singularity in what it has been called an “unprovoked offensive maneuver.” In short, they are not playing nice anymore. The devs dropped a very hyped video that some fans would call “corny,” but hey, selling some drama is always good; it shows the Illuminate warping in as if they owned the place. And honestly? They kinda do now.
As for the replies, it’s chaos. Some players are just hyped, screaming stuff like “TURN ON THE TV! THEY HIT SUPER EARTH!” and “I COMEEEEE 😳😳😳” (with that many emojis). Others? Not so much. One player said, “The weapons nerfs killed this game for me.” Another one is demanding cross-progression so they don’t have to start over again on PC, and then the Xbox guys are still salty about being locked out, with one reply going outright: “Open the damn gate to Xbox players. Smh.”
If we are to talk about the real MVP of this invasion, it would definitely be the community reaction. So, now, the elephant in the room: timing. The timing of this invasion feels like a huge shot in the arm for Helldivers 2 after meeting with mixed reactions since launch. With issues on servers, balance complaints, and the whole “no Xbox version” fiasco, this game truly needs a win. And if there is one, a full-scale alien war might just be it.
