The latest expansion set of Hearthstone, Rise of Shadows has gone live, and players will get to meet its villains.

The notorious League of E.V.I.L. is now cooking up mayhem in the popular card game signaling the yearly set rotation. It signals the beginning of the Year of the Dragon. Players are now saying goodbye to the cards from the Year of the Mammoth.

The annual rotation of the card set will mean that cards from three previous sets will be replaced. Journey to Un’Goro, Kobolds, and Catacombs and Knights of the Frozen Throne cards are unavailable in Standard Mode. Instead, there will be 135 new cards, and a new “token” card referred to as Lackeys.

The Lackeys are not included in packs but can be created by getting collectible cards. These token cards are low-stat and low-cost cards with only 1-Mana, 1/1 minions. However, they are seen as powerful cards to play with.

Aside from the Lackeys, players will also get to see the Scheme cards. These cards draw their power from the duration it stays on a players hand. The longer it remains on one’s hand, the powerful its spell becomes.

There is also the Twinspell cards that enable one to cast a spell twice. It actually does the twinning effect automatically once the card is used. Twinspell is similar to Hearthstone: The Witchwood expansion in 2018 which had the Echo keyword.

The update also gives players the chance to unlock the free neutral Legendary card – Archmage Vargoth. It will automatically be added to one’s collection when they log in between April 4 and July 9.

The new expansion also brings a lot of quest for five straight days starting at the launch date.

On the first day, players will have to play 25 cards in Play mode. Once the quest is completed, players will get a pack of Rise of Shadows and a pack of The Witchwood. On Day 2, players should complete five games in Play mode to win two packs of cards. The reward includes a pack each of Rise of Shadows card and The Boomsday Project.

On Day 5, players should be able to play 100 cards before getting four card packs. The rewards include Rise of Shadows pack, The Boomsday Project pack, The Witchwood pack, and Rastakhan’s Rumble pack.

Hearthstone: Rise of Shadows is the first game expansion that goes live simultaneously worldwide.
