Even though Rockstar Games haven’t announced a sixth main installment to what’s arguably their most popular franchise, rumors surrounding its potential release date won’t quit popping up, with the latest one claiming that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released sometime this year.
On Wednesday, an Australian retailer named Gameware put up three different listings for Grand Theft Auto 6, one for each platform. In addition to that, the retailer gave a release date window for the game, which simply said 2020.
It’s worth noting that the aforementioned retailer has leaked release dates int he past, with the most notable one coming last year, as they accurately leaked the release date for the latest Need for Speed title. So, the leak could be accurate.
On the other hand, the listing shows Grand Theft Auto 6 as a PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC game, and it’s highly unlikely that the game won’t be released for current-gen consoles, especially given the fact that Rockstar hasn’t announced the game.

Rockstar’s next installment of Grand Theft Auto is rumored to be taking place in South America, and the belief is that the sixth game will follow in the footsteps of the fifth game, as it’ll also have three main characters. Also, there’s been a longtime rumor that one of the three characters will be, for the first time in franchise history, a female.
Even though the game released seven years ago, Grand Theft Auto V still has a very active player-base, and Rockstar is continuing to add content to its online mode, and while GTA 6 is probably in development right now, the devs will likely continue to add content to their 2013 release until we head into the next generation later this year.
While the location, characters, and release date for Grand Theft Auto 6 are still a mystery, we do know that Carl Johnson (CJ) from San Andreas won’t be returning for the sixth game, as the character’s voice actor has been pretty vocal about not wanting to work with Rockstar again. Of course, they could just cast a different actor if they want the character to return, but that could result in a ton of fan backlash.
If the sixth main installment of Grand Theft Auto is coming out later this year, then Rockstar will announce it soon, likely at this June’s E3 event. But, as of right now, nothing has been confirmed, and it doesn’t seem likely that GTA 6 will come into our lives in 2020.
