Currently, the multiplayer beta for Gears of War: The Reloaded is fully launched, with players diving into chainsaw-fueled chaos. Some enjoy another nostalgic Gears experience, while others grumble about hit detection, optimization, and the sheer fact that the first game is remastered—*again.*
Its infamous status began early on, with many, namely Twitter’s Chewy, saying it feels inconsistent from that of the Gears of War original, even the Ultimate Edition. “After about 40 games in the beta so far, this gnasher is woeful,” said one player. Another joined the chorus: “Worst hit detection in Gears history.”
PC players aren’t having it much smoother either.Alex stated that his aiming experience was completely “wobbly” and unclean, with Sinisa Knezic further attesting the hitbox issue with “point blank gnasher shot did not register… lol.”
The bot debate enters another phase—or for that matter, non-existence. Fenix_A2Z went all caps in rage demanding bots for private matches after a disaster in the first one when some teammates dropped out, “ADD THE DAMN BOTS!!!!! Why is it so difficult?!!!”
Another pain point is accessibility. Some had trouble becoming members of the beta, JohanDijkstra20 noted it was not available on Xbox for Europe. Some couldn’t get into it at all, like AlexST19. Meanwhile, Nine Ball noted with cynicism, “This game is only on the first day of beta, and there are already no players playing it.”
Meanwhile, the bigger question remains: Why bother with a Gears 1 remaster *again* when Gears 2 remains untouched? “What a joke of a remaster,” Chad Woods tweeted, saying, “literally just Ultimate Edition with higher resolution.”
Die-hard fans, though, are consistently queuing for matches and having fun amidst the ruckus. For instance, Jeffrey said they waited for 20 minutes to get into a lobby but then played for hours. It’s a beta, after all; bugs and imbalances come with the territory. The real question is if The Coalition will actually listen to feedback before the full release.
Now, should you jump into jank along with that classic Gears adrenaline rush? Just don’t expect a very polished experience yet. Or bots. Seriously, where are those bots?
