Owning an Xbox Live Gold membership comes with its fair share of perks. Most notably, subscribers have access to free games every month and incredible discounts. Every now and then, they also get an exclusive look at popular games before they officially release.

This is happening with the highly anticipated Gears of War 5. For the weekend only, Xbox Live Gold subscribers will have the opportunity to play multiplayer. The Gears 5 Versus Multiplayer Tech Test is including four modes: Arcade, Escalation, King of the Hill, and Bootcamp.

This is great news if you’ve been chomping at the bit to experience this incredible game from The Coalition. Each of these modes offers something great to an already storied franchise.

Escalation has received a lot of attention since it was first introduced to audiences across the globe. It first appeared in Gears of War 4, and judging the feedback, the developers seem to be furthering its great design even more.

Arcade is completely new to the franchise. It was made to make multiplayer a little more user-friendly for first-time players. There are several characters to choose from, with each one having distinct active and passive abilities. Each possess a unique weapon loadout as well. The intention here is to make customizing weapons and skills much more convenient.

What’s even more interesting is the reward system. For every kill and assist, you can earn skulls. They can be used to enhance your character and purchase more weapons.

Bootcamp is pretty much a training mode that players can use to get familiar with controls and battle tactics. It seems like a helpful tool to use before hitting it hard in the campaign and multiplayer modes. You’ll have as much time as you need to master your skills for the battlefield.

Finally, King of the Hill is a returning mode that is a fan-favorite amongst the Gears of War community. Teams pretty much fight to control rings on a map. It forces intense battles up close. This year’s version should improve upon its design.

If you have an Xbox Live Gold membership, you certainly will want to check out these modes before the weekend is over. It will give you the chance to see what sort of amazing improvements The Coalition have made since their latest game.

To access these free modes, all you have to do is visit the Microsoft Store. You won’t want to miss this incredible action.
