Fortnite community, be ready to receive the glories of another huge update launching on June 18 amidst the rumors that it would bring in a crossover for deadmau5, the electronic music producer. ShiinaBR, a reliable leaker on Twitter, has given “the two-days-or-so” date for the actual announcement of the collaboration.

Now, do any of you even know the answer to that question? And judging from the replies, a lot do not. deadma5 is a Canadian DJ famous for his trademark mouse-head helmet and a bunch of big hits like “Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff.” Of course, this wouldn’t be the first music-related crossover for Fortnite—think Marshmello’s in-game concert—yet the playerbase sure seems to have a lot to talk about.

The hype is indeed there. One fan commented, “Dope been waiting for another male artist to grace us with their presence for Festival,” referring to Fortnite’s music Festival mode. On the other hand, some were not having any of it: “We go from one trash artist to another,” a player lamented, while another practically demanded, “Who the hell is that guy?”

The divergent reactions don’t end there. Players have already begun speculating in a humorous vein about just how absurd the deadmau5 skin might end up being in the game. “His head will be gigantic,” one forewarned, while another cheekily mused that the in-game DJ might even have an emote where he calls other players a “f” just like he did on his latest Twitch stream. Yikes.

Then again, amidst all of the memes and tangent conversations, there’s still some genuine curiosity about what is actually going to be in the update. Will deadmau5 end up being the face of the next season of Fortnite Festival? Will we see some fresh tunes loaded into the game? And perhaps the most pressing question of all – will the cost of grinding the cosmetics be worth it?

The one thing that remains clear is that Fortnite never slows. Granted, with a Superman collab rumored for 11th July, Epic sure is keeping the content train chugging on. Whether you love a deadmau5 collab or not, I declare June 18 to be mad in the realm of Fortnite.

So shall we tune in? Or is the sight of a gigantic mouse head stomping around the island already giving you deja vu? Either way, brace yourselves; another chapter of Fortnite stories is about to be written. It is going to be loud if the past is anything to go by.
