Any extra spicy update on the Ballistic tactical shooter mode needs to be talked about! The big headline? A SURRENDER button. That’s right; in case you get completely wrecked and the morale drops below an average default’s skin win rate, there is now an option whereby the team can either vote to SURRENDER and be transported to the next match. Way better than sitting through that one-sided slaughter.

But pause and get this: It has to be unanimous. Meaning that all four players have to agree that the other team is so overpowered that they consider the assignment much stronger than endless talk. Getting four randoms on the same Fortnite team to agree on anything is like trying to herd cats. There will always be someone messing with everyone refusing to surrender despite having a negative kill count, and looting from a gray pistol is his idea of loot and a dream.

The announcement was complimented by Fortnite’s official Twitter handle whereby the text reads, “Struggling? Suffering? That’s okay! Use the SURRENDER feature in Ballistic. A unanimous team vote ends your pain and puts you into the next match.” Easy to grasp. Of course, the replies were an absolute mess—because it’s Fortnite Twitter, and the default setting is chaos.

Some were more pro, with Zenitsu commenting, “Can we surrender this season and go to the next one?” (Mood.) If that isn’t the cynicism to beat all cynicism.) In reply, makuyoku said, “The most toxic people you know are going to surrender 3-1.” Honestly? Yeah, they’re right. One of those players will take a break from sweating perfectly hard to just sabotage his own team in the surrender vote.

A different reply. thekidwstn went deep into rant territory: “Your game is some hot ass, no one gives a fuck about ballistics, make the regular game good, nobody gives a fuck about star wars guns, fix reload.” Oof. Somebody’s had a bad drop. Whereas DryRoach69 just bluntly asserted, “Games trash when everyones tries to be a damn sweat gta 6 can’t come soon enough.” Harsh, but hey, at least they’re honest.

Defending Ballistic, KidDope continued: “Ballistic is fun and easy. Only bad part about it is braindead teammates but that’s cause Fortnite is clearly their first shooter.” Fair. If you’ve played actual tactical shooters like Siege or Valorant, Ballistic probably feels like a breezy warmup.

That begs the question: Should players ever surrender? On one hand, if your squad is getting steamrolled with no chance of a comeback, why waste time? Just reset and try again. But on the other hand, can surrendering really be considered the Fortnite way? This is the game where people will build a five-star hotel mid-fight just to avoid taking a single bullet. Giving up feels… wrong.

You could argue that the very thing the mode needs. Ballistic is beginning to form its roots, and surrendering might reduce some rage quitting. Actually, sometimes you just want to be away from the next match rather than standing around watching your opponents get farmed for kills.

Now that the barrier is breached, will this be the nail in the coffin? Maybe. And will some salty team members refuse to use it? Oh, yeah. But hey, at least that means you have another option. Just don’t be that one dude that keeps hitting the surrender button every single time he loses fight number one. Nobody likes that guy.

And, there’s no shame in that if you sometimes jump in and call it quits. That kitchen table poker game where you shove all in and hope for a homerun is actually really winning if you make sure everyone agrees, or you suffer as a group.

So now, drop in, try to survive, remember that shiny new surrender button, and use it wisely should you ever need to.
