ShiinaBR, a trustworthy leaker, claims that Fortnite‘s major update is in the last round of playtesting. Gamers might not have to wait long to get their hands on a new patch, as the v38.10 update is already in its last testing stage before the rollout. The patch is likely to include the controversial collaboration with The Simpsons, which has been splitting the Fortnite player base like never before.

The update also sparked memes and no less than a dozen will-they-won’t-they discussions in the community. Although people are effing and blinding about this topic for real they are going totally nuts with this season theme Spring-field.

So what exactly is causing all this fuss? It seems that the devs are going for another “mini-season” format similar to the one with Star Wars that was recently introduced. There are players who do not want the shorter seasonal formats to come back at all, and they are not shy to show it. For example, EmberleighGrace said, “Mini seasons are the worst ever thing that happened to the game,” whereas EthanWeldz affirmed that only the Star Wars season truly deserved to be called a mini season. During this heated debate, a lot of personal insults were exchanged.

On the contrary, there are players who are just very puzzled by how the game narrative is to be changed from the present dark, mysterious “dark presence” theme to… the Simpsons. A player named A//an even asked, “How the hell is the storyline gonna switch from dark presence to simpsons????” which is indeed a reasonable question considering the context. The current storyline has been all about ghostly and eerie details, and now they are supposedly taking us to Springfield?? That is a pretty drastic change alright.

Some players are already guessing the next things coming. Jiberating referred to somebody’s theory that “the dark presence is trapping us in a sitcom,” which, if you ask me, is pretty cool. Just imagine being stuck in a never-ending cartoon universe while some cosmic horror watches from the corner??? that could work indeed!

Nevertheless, the new season is not indifferently viewed by everyone. LeonSheltonCR7 was very affirmative and stated: “A lot of people want this season and I want it too. I wish we could have this season forever with this map.” So, there is definitely some hype along with all the disapproval. It’s always the same with Fortnite – every new season has its fans and refusers.

The timetable looks quite tight as well. Some replies suggested that the new season could make its debut on November 1st, right after the live event. XSET_BUBBLE verified “the season is november 1” and others were debating whether there would be any downtime between the end of the current season and the start of Simpsons ones. Looks like it’s going to be a fast transition.

Interestingly enough, there is a strong community split on the issue of collaboration seasons. Some players are like, “yay, more content,” while others are all like, “cash grab, get out.” Player jonnySmiles was blunt and wrote: “I really don’t understand how people are exited about this season… it seems to me this is the biggest dog shit the game has ever experienced,” which is very severe but still, honesty deserves to be acknowledged.

There are questions regarding the playtesting of the patch. Waffy posted “We will see how true this is; I don’t think they playtest with real people,” which brings up the issue of how really does Epic Games test the updates before they are turned on. Considering some of the bumpy launches we have had in the past, maybe they have a point.

This whole situation is reminiscent of the time when Fortnite was doing major collaborations and players had doubts then too. Do you remember when Marvel got the island’s attention for the first time? People were skeptical but it turned out to be one of the most successful seasons ever. Who knows, perhaps the Simpsons will be equally rewarding.

What is quite clear is that Fortnite still surprises its way much more than anybody could ever guess. From battle royale to creative mode and now these gigantic crossovers, the game keeps on switching things up. Whether you love it or you hate it, you must admit that Epic Games is not afraid to take risks.

As we await the conclusion of the last playtesting and the release of the v38.10 update, the community still remains polarized. Some players are already counting down the days until they’ll get to embody Homer Simpson, while others are planning to go on a hiatus until the next “proper” season. In any case, it will be a spectacle to witness the whole saga. The update could drop any day now, so stay tuned to those patch notes and get ready for whatever Springfield may have in store for us. The update will be available on PlayStation and other platforms like Xbox.
