Fortnite fanatics, strap in for what will be one wild ride of a third season. Freshly leaked, proposing the return of a movement mechanic, albeit with a twist; ZP shards will be scattered all over the island to allow dashing the old way from Chapter 2, Season 5. You heard it right.

The leak, tweeted about by @Loolo_WRLD but credited to @Wensoing, stated that the shards will be underground, speeding you up, or teleporting you a short distance. Think hop rocks with a little extra oomph. And if you are sitting there thinking, “Wait, haven’t we had this before?”… you are not wrong. The OG players switched on for some season 4 variations of the concept, but this one is more tied into Zero Point lore, so… things may definitely get real.

And now, the funny replies? Outright gold. Some fans are all for it (“I love dashes yessss,” exclaims @x103p), while others have already blast off with theories. @SussyM51019 thinks that the Zero Point may lie below Lonewolf Lair (that underwater statue), and Season 3 could be the big reveal. On the other hand, @Flynn07182227 could have had a pretty good thought that a Death Star-type event would fracture the map and dump ZP shards on prime locations. Pretty loopy, right?

Biomes were also on the table. @zureska begged for the return of the Zero Point desert biome (and with sand tunneling, working, please), while @Point_falsifie came out and asked straight up if we were getting a ZP-themed biome. Now, Epic has never once confirmed a single thing, but with all these assets being leaked, it certainly would not shock anybody.

Then there were the doubters. “@VelvetVally23,” screamed old news, “This was leaked like a week ago!” and @Dera670 dismissed it the most direct way possible: “This one is so bad.” Harsh words. But hey, not every mechanic is going to stick – remember the sideways scythe? Neither do we.

One thing everybody wants to know: how is this going to shake up the way we play? If the shards work how dash did in C2S5, then expect rotations and more close-quarter combat to change to the extreme. Then again, if we want to talk about hype, @Loolo_WRLD put on his tinfoil hat and suggested that the ability would likely be changed, so maybe don’t hold your breath on that one being copy-pasted 100%… Plus with hop rocks probably coming back in Season 4 too (@realNumberSets made that highlight), we are talking mega mobility this season.

Obviously, neither news nor rumor is set in stone. Remember when mechs were supposed to come back? shivers The very fact that the countdown to Season 3 is rolling down means that Epic must be cooking something tasty. From a total Zero Point comeback to just some sick fast movement shenanigans, one thing is for sure: the Fortnite map is going to feel hugely different.

So keep your eyes peeled for more news—and perhaps practice your dash timing. You are definitely going to need it.
