A great way to pump up the hype for the entire Fortnite community would be to suggest that this coming season is going to be, let’s say, “not what anybody expected”. The recent leaks from that trusted insider HYPEX are a veritable bombshell: hero abilities are getting into Fortnite next season, and they will be replacing guns in the process. Yes, you read that right. No more bullets; just superpowers.

And these abilities that UAVs mentioned won’t cost you any ammo. Meaning, they could be skills to be spam-used for eternity or carefully used in a disciplined manner. There will be two classes: normal abilities picked up from the floor and higher-tier abilities found in chests or supply drops. So, picture Fortnite meeting Overwatch and then slapping a ton of their more-building kind of chaotic personality over it.

Still, don’t freak out just yet because the voices of the community deserve to be considered. Some are hyped up, like @SZysol who dropped an F emoji and considered the case closed. Others, of course, are not thrilled. With @GohanSupremacy saying “NO GUNS SEASON??” and @SadBoiSammy306 even going so far as to compare it to Marvel Rivals, which… honestly, is a fair comparison.

For all Star Wars haters out there, @djbestgamergod is now over this season and begging it to end just so that we can move on to whatever this superhero madness is about. Meanwhile, @jussgass couldn’t hold back, calling those blasters out for “pu puuuu puuu” like we’re all five years old. Harsh, but kinda true.

And oh, that only causes more confusion. @Phoenix3REI asks the real question: “Are we getting abilities AND guns, or is this a full replacement?” Good question, since, if it’s the latter, Fortnite is taking a very sharp turn on altogether a different road of identity. @ZeroFusion0_Pv is also there echoing that concern of whether abilities would be full replacements for weapons, same way blasters had been.

Now, not all doom and gloom here. As a matter of fact, @skitzuhfrenia is hoping for a “big booty furry superhero skin,” which… honestly, Epic Games, that should totally be a thing. And @AndrewLoga62703 is hoping for a The Boys collab because, let’s be honest, Homelander in Fortnite would literally break the internet.

That said, nothing concerning this has yet to be confirmed by Epic. HYPEX has proved himself reliable, but still: without a trailer or patch notes, after it, take it with a grain of salt. However, if this leak is true, Fortnite just altogether transformed into a brand new kingdom. No more spraying ARs; just one big showdown on the island by superheroes.

Is it going to work? Who knows, really. Fortnite pulled off crazier twists before (remember the whole map blackout?). But one thing that is for certain: the community is going to have opinions. Some are going to love it; some are going to rage-quit; and some are just going to meme it to death.

So, gear up. This next season might just turn out to be the craziest one yet. Or it could flop harder than a default trying to build. Either way, they’ll be entertained.
