Fortnite players just can’t take it anymore. If there are pickaxes in Season 3, they should be lightsabers-right now! An online petition begging Epic for a slap on the wrist and finally including this major weapon from Star Wars has been semi-viral. And honestly? It’s high time.
The tweet has ignited grips across the community in agreement with nothing but a link to the petition. No replies yet, but you just know when the community churns into motion, there will be a ton of “YES PLEASE” and “TAKE MY VBUCKS” in the comments section.
Fortnite has braved the storms of Star Wars-it now has numerous in-game happenings of lightsabers as weapons. Skins such as Darth Vader, Kylo Ren, and Baby Yoda (sorry, Grogu) have also visited the island. Weirdly, Epic will not allow one to swing a lightsaber as their pickaxe. Also, that seems odd because frankly, it is right there. The demand is obvious.
A glowing red Sith blade mining bricks. Or a sleek blue Jedi saber chopping down trees. The animations one can imagine, quick and slick overheads with that delightful vwoom SFX. One of those cosmetics will clearly sell, and yet… nothing.
Lightsaber pickaxes have always been talked about as an interesting add-on. That’s what happens. The logic of appealing to a Star Wars-themed audience is simple and straightforward.
However, the heat is on under Season 3. Will Epic budge? Or are players set to continue lumbering about with their old axes and their painful fantasies of something much more interesting?
With a few exceptions, Fortnite pretty much is a game that caters to all the whims of the masses. It becomes much richer when this fantasy is brought home through offerings-it has imported everything from the Marvel universe to Dragon Ball.
Let’s hope this petition works sufficiently to see this one become real. Because, let’s face it, no one really wants to chop wood with a regular pick when they could be doing so with a weapon from a galaxy far, far away.
Thus far, Epic has nothing to say on the matter, but with Star Wars Day approaching (May the 4th), one can never be sure a last-minute drop may not be in store. Maybe for this one, the Force is strong.
Sign the petition, if lightsaber pickaxes appeal to you, or just keep shouting in the void of Twitter until Epic relents. In all cases, the movement is now swelling into awesome proportions, and it’s just a matter of time until somebody at HQ says: “Fine, here, take your laser swords.”.
