Following the hot streak of terrific new emotes, Fortnite has made yet another higher-caliber collaboration by partnering with arguably the most famous band in history, OK GO. Just like how the rock band went viral with their zero-G music video, this new emote has literally floated the community between excitement and confusion.
This emote, obtainable now from the Fortnite store, showcases the same type of floating, bubble-induced chaos found in the OK GO video for “Upside Down & Inside Out,” so you can imagine just how wild it really is. Players are flipping, spinning, and bouncing around in-mid-air, carrying the vibes all throughout with this dope track.
The response? Mixed but mostly funny ones. Some fans were calling it “the funniest emote in ages,” whereas others were simply baffled at its existence. “What the actual f are these new Fortnite emotes brah,” another one tweeted. Another one just desperately asked “WHERE IS MINE?”
There are some dissenting opinions, though. Some are bitter that Epic still keeps teaming up with every random person instead of bringing back some crowd-pleasers like Travis Scott. “Bro they release anything but Travis Scott bring him back already bruv,” said a tweet. And somewhere in there, people were crying that the bubble sounds were louder than the music.
The nostalgia factor is strong here. For anyone who grew up watching OK GO insane music videos (Treadmill anybody?), this emote just feels like a straight-up return. “Craaazy throwback oml,” said one player. Another just commented, “I forgot about that lol.”
Anyway, just as the Fortnite Twitter is known for doing, chaos started to ensue with replies populating the timeline. Correcting grammar became widespread (“Spelt ‘You’re’ wrong”), random insults began emerging (“Ur trash”), and there were even a couple of existential dips (“How does it feel to know your bloodline and entire legacy lead to a little shill like you”).
And so, love it or trash it, this emote will forever grab your attention. It isn’t just another plain-vanilla dance; it’s the full-riot. Honestly, that’s really what fun is all about when it comes to Fortnite collaborations. One moment, you’re shooting down aliens, and the very next, you’re cruising high on zero gravity to an indie rock jam.
Also, to all of you with the taste for weird, theatrical emotes, this is a must-have. Don’t expect it to make any sense though. Because at this point, just about any moment in Fortnite can be summed up as ‘why not?’.
Also, if nothing else, at least this isn’t another Star Wars lightsaber emote. Wait, was that Star Wars Pick Axe in the tweet? Nah, probably not. But who knows anymore.
