Last week DICE dropped one of its finest trailers in years, the trailer introducing fans of the franchise to its take on the Pacific Theatre during WW2. War in the Pacific is the standing title of Battlefield V’s 5.0 update, but there is much more coming to the game than new content.
However, let’s start with the meats and guts of Battlefield: the planes, tanks, guns and game-changing pick-ups. As two of the most iconic factions involved in WW2, you can expect many historically-accurate aspects covering both new factions: the U.S army and the Japanese.
Fitting with the US vs Japan Pacific theme, there are four new guns being added at launch: the classic M1 Garand (PING!), the Japanese Type 99 Arisaka, the Type 100, and the M1919A6. The Garand has been sorely missed by WW2 nuts and is finally arriving!
Over the course of the Tides of War, Battlefield V’s live service content additions, you’ll also be able to play with the classic Grease Gun the Nambu Type 2A, a new LMG, the Type 97, and the M1918 A2. There are also two new battle pickups: the katana and the M2 Flamethrower.
Larger chapter awards include the Jungle Carbine, the Type 94 and Model 27 sidearms which can be unlocked by completed challenges in the War in the Pacific.
New vehicles include the iconic piece of U.S machinery the M4 Sherman Tank, plus a Dinghy, Ka-Mi Light Amphibious Tank, the Type 97, and many more vehicles that will help bring the maps to life. The F4U Corsair bomber and fighter variants rule the air on the U.S side, while the Japanese have their equally-iconic Japanese Zero.
In terms of game tweaks and fixes, DICE has announced a range of updates that arrive alongside the exciting new content. This includes a range of gameplay tweaks, such as the frustrating Panzerbusche 39 rapid-fire glitch, irritating flickering smoke grenades, and also giving players the ability to inspect their gun skins.
There are also some new balance changes, including an accuracy reduction for the Lewis Gun under sustained rates of fire, and increased the fire-rate for the Model 8. The list of balance changes and tweaks is huge and you can read more about it here on Reddit.
Lastly, towards the end of the update post comes the great news that both the classic map Wake Island and the much-requested Private Games will arrive later in Chapter 5. Overall, this update is huge and shows DICE have put in the effort for the latest update.
