With an announcement like that, Final Fantasy XVI is a real treat for the Xbox platform. That marks the end of all waiting and dead-discussion on exclusivities: It is out on Xbox, my friends. And the reactions? Well, all are across the spectrum.
At first, the announcement was made with much simplicity: “When we said Final Fantasy XVI is now on Xbox, we really meant it.” Short, sweet, and hypefull. Then down the feed, things got a whole different story. Some gamers are joyful, some are just mad, and some are a little confused.
Now, Pep (@FootballwGaming) decided to run an immediate line of questioning on Xbox itself: “How many copies sold? Why are you hiding it?” What, man? The game came out just now-aw, let it breathe for a moment! Now, Rival Indigo (@RivalIndigo) just has to create maximum gamer confusion: “Tf is a Square Enix?” Bruh, what even do you answer to that?
Anyway, others are not clueless. SeriesJohn (@johnnymhelou) is already deep into it: “i know, and im loving it π” accompanied by a screenshot from their playthrough. That is the energy we want! With that energy, Yenneris (@ItsYenneris) commits to FFXVI as being one of the best of the series alongside FFVIII and FFIX. Big millstones to say considering how legendary those two are.
Then onto the whole Game Pass argument. GoyangiFish (@GoyangiFish) comes right to the point: “Game is literally dead on Xbox, no one is talking about it no more. Just bring Final Fantasy XVI(16) to Game Pass.” Oof. Maybe they could be right; Xbox folk love Game Pass.
And, obviously, let’s not forget the physical-boys. Ayore (@Ayoreingame) pops the question: “Where is the physical release?” Because, for some reason, slapping A for download doesn’t quite feel like shoving in a disc. MicBrand1 (@MicBrand1) would respond that, “Physically pressing A to download is Xbox’s new physical release.” Albeit a bit harsh.
Oh, and of course are the issues with performance. Mike Jones (@Hypnofear) calls for frame rates and resolution; he calls it a mess and states that it should have a 40fps mode for 120hz screens. Meanwhile, Slim (@Slimjimnewrims) points to his retro collection: “I’m basically done with 240 PS2 games on Series X.” That is a good flex, but hey, we are talking about FFXVI here.
Then follows the usual console-bashing plus some PlayStation vs Xbox, hardware vs exclusives stuff that will never really be decided upon. Erik (@ErikInCt_) established a chilling bounty, “There are no Xbox exclusives, you missed the memo.” And then Slim came back strong with a very insightful analysis: “PlayStation has the better games, Xbox has the better hardware. How it’s always been since the OG Xbox.”
At least, they are merely glad to have played it. Higashi (@Higashi_Shinkai) tweeted, “Going to play it right now,” which was complimented by a hype GIF. Meanwhile, D.D.B.N Koolaid (@koolaiddrinker5) is on his next run already, calling it a great one.
So what is the cardinal verdict? Final Fantasy XVI on Xbox, baby, is a big deal, no question. But is it living up to the hype? Well, that will depend on who you ask. Ones in love with the game, some are nitpicking, and some are still looking for their physical copy.
One thing is for sure: Square Enix and Xbox really ropped the launch. Now it’s up to the players to decide if it was worth the wait.
