We’re in the final countdown to the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake. This week is undoubtedly going to be difficult for a lot of fans due to the fact that the game was originally supposed to release in just a few days time on March 3, 2020.

However, the development team at Square Enix decided that it would be best to push the game’s release back, citing the need for a few extra weeks to make sure players were receiving the game that they deserved and have waited for.

Square obviously knows what it’s doing, and it also understands that gamers were understandably disappointed in the delay. To that end, they’ve been releasing a slew of content counting down to the game’s eventual release via the official Final Fantasy VII Remake Twitter account.

Recently, Square released a special graphic to celebrate seven weeks until the game’s release.

“Not long to go now,” Square said in the tweet, beside an emoji of an hourglass. Of course, the use of the iconic Roman Numeral VII was a particularly nice touch, fitting in well with the overall theme of the game.

The artwork used is a piece of an earlier released image that shows Tifa sitting atop the well in her hometown of Nibelheim looking up at the stars. It is a recreation of a menu screen from the original 1997 game.

It is also at the heart of a new promotion between Butterfinger and Final Fantasy VII Remake, where US players will be able to unlock this image as part of a dynamic PlayStation 4 theme.

The game’s producer, Yoshinori Kitase, expressed a lot of regret in the official announcement regarding the game’s delay. However, he seemed adamant that this was the right decision for the good of the game and the player experience as a whole.

“We are making this tough decision in order to give ourselves a few extra weeks to apply that final polish to the game and to deliver you with the best possible experience,” Kitase said back on January 14. “I, on behalf of the whole team, want to apologize to everyone, as I know this means waiting for the game just a little bit longer. Thank you for your patience and continued support.”

While this game may be pushed back, Square confirmed in a recent call that the delay will not impact the release date of the upcoming second installment of Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Final Fantasy VII Remake will release worldwide on the PlayStation 4 console on April 10, 2020.
