Their new game, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, is something that got fans of the series very excited when Square Enix put it out. And this is something that did not simply win one award, but two Webby Awards. It’s not any kind of ordinary award. The game managed to win Best Music/Sound Design- under AI, Immersive & Games, People Voices Award. That’s almost like winning the jury and the crowd at once. Heavy flexing.

FFVII Rebirth is the second installment of the remake saga from the world’s best-selling RPG of 1997 if you happen to live under a rock (or shy away from the spoilers about the title). Audio in this game has been nailed harder than Sephiroth’s swords in a duel. Soundtrack- chef’s kiss. Sound effects- Immersive as heck. Voice acting- chef’s kiss again. That is why Webbys nominated it-basically the Oscars of the Internet.

Usually, we’d go straight into fan reaction- aside from, um… this reply section. I are probably all in their corners playing nonstop and skipping the tweeting. Or, perhaps, the sound design has left them all breathless. Either way, Square Enix isn’t waiting around for applause; they’re counting trophies already.

What makes this award sweeter, of course, is the competitive field it wins in. Webbys do not give these out like candy; you have to bring it. FFVII Rebirth certainly did that-and more. In masterclass nostalgia with fresh beats, one of the most versatile and legendary music producers, Nobuo Uematsu, has worked his magic again into the sound design-another cool thing to this game. Every spell, every sword clash, even the creepy whispers of the Whispers-it all hits.

So what’s next? The common answer would be-more awards, of course. But to be honest, completing the trilogy itself, Part Three just has the fans drooling. If sound design stays at this level, then it’s another Webby-or five-in the making.

For now, though: if you haven’t played Rebirth yet, crank your volume up-for a favour from the ears to thank you, and possibly also your trophy shelf.
