Square Enix has just released a new story patch for Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis that quite frankly sent its fanbase into a frenzy over upcoming artwork featuring Glenn, Lucia, Matt, and boy, young Sephiroth. The artwork showcasing the new artwork was created by Lisa Fujise and was shared via the official FFVII Ever Crisis Twitter account and, yes, it is as hype as it sounds.
In case you have not been keeping up until now, Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis rewrites the saga of FFVII for mobile, with a merging of the original game, Crisis Core, Advent Children, and even the brand-new story concerning The First Soldier in one magical swirl.
This update brings more down into The First Soldier’s lore, letting us peek at more youthful versions of a few fan favorites. What can we say- it’s a little crazy to see baby Sephiroth before he totally went into one-winged angel mode.
The tweet doesn’t tell you much, really, but mostly the artwork attached says it all. Glenn, Lucia, and Matt-these are three SOLDIER operatives from The First Soldier-look as sharp as they come.
But really, the shining star is Sephiroth. Fujise’s drawing captured that haunting pre-fall-from-grace look, leaving you to wonder just how much this update is going to expand on his backstory.
But here’s the kicker- as of yet, there are no replies, which is somewhat strange. You wouldn’t typically have to wait long for the FFVII fans to speculate, draw memes, and demand whichever version of “WHERE’S CLOUD?!” is the latest.
Maybe they’re all busy downloading the update before they have a chance to write anything. Or maybe everyone’s just staring at young Sephiroth, looking like, “How did this kid grow up to stab Aerith?”
In either case, this is a huge update for players of Ever Crisis. Sitting consistent with chapters made over time, if this drop is any telltale sign, Square isn’t easing down anytime soon. More lore, more characters-and really-more opportunities for the continuing obsession with the convoluted history of FFVII.
So, if you’re a mobile RPG enthusiast or simply need to know what Sephiroth was like before he became gaming’s most legendary evil, now’s your time to dive in. The update’s live, the art is fire, and the lore keeps on deepening. Just don’t come cryin’ to us when you find yourself spending the next thirty hours of your life theorizing the baby Sephiroth hair care routine.
And hey, if you’ve checked it out already, feel free to comment. We know that the FFVII fandom never stays quiet for long.
