A surprise update was suddenly enacted by Xbox for Far Cry 4, allowing this aging game to shine at 60fps-to mixed reviews. The official Game Pass account broke this news and said with glee, “RIP 30fps,” only for many to counter with snarky reminders that PC gamers have been enjoying silky smooth frame rates since 2014. Ouch.

So Far Cry 4, the open-world shooter from 2014 set in the chaotic mountains of Kyrat, while it surely had some polish on Xbox, has just received an update unlocking 60fps for nice big gorgeous gunfights, wildlife chases-and Pagan Min’s gloriously insane monologues. Some of the gamers side-eyed that “upgrade”: “Uh, this isn’t new?”

Well, here’s one open-and-shut-type: @V3nti1at0r said, “I completed it with an over 60 FPS back in 2015 on PC.” @bamos3d said, “Bruh, 10 years to be played in 60 fps haha.” And honestly, I think that’s valid because, for the longest time, the PC had had those luxuries. Consoles, meanwhile, were stuck with 30. Anyway, better late than never.

That said, a few eagerly await smoother gameplay in Kyrat. @Neon_Nerd_88 tweeted, “60fps just to wait for Pagan Min to return 😁👍(iykyk).” And @iguilleS is about to start begging for Wildlands to receive this same treatment. Priorities.

On the other hand, there are folks skeptical that a 60fps was something laudable in 2024. @ArttuHautanen also went ahead to ridicule Xbox: “My man I bought Series X at launch in 2020 and the box says 120fps support… now I’m supposed to think a 2014 game doing half that is cool?” Yikes.

And then it’s down the ramp for the PC elite to flex some. @V3nti1at0r went on own about five times, reminding people 60fps was a minimum on PC since then. “30 FPS were extinct since forever on PC,” he said. Cool story, bro.

And here comes the retort – in true @branman86 fashion, he calls Game Pass a “SCAM” whilst urging folks to “buy physical to own your own game pass.” Okay, grandpa, bedtime.

So what’s the final verdict? It might be an okay refresh to Far Cry 4 at 60fps, but by 2024, that’s probably nothing big. If you were holding back on replaying it for a while, though, now’s as good a time as any. Just don’t expect the Xbox fans to send you a parade.

And on that note: If anybody is curious about what the next one getting that treatment is gonna be… well… @CarlosAKABabyJ is begging for Dishonored 2. Xbox, all ears?
