The dark and cryptic teaser by FromSoftware might have been the last straw for many players in anticipation of the next big Elden Ring patch. A fight against the Everdark Sovereign variant of the Sentient Pest shall commence in Limveld starting July 3, 2025, at 3:00 CEST, strikingly convenient for either being served late-night chills at 18:00 PDT for those who party hard all day or 10:00 for an early breakfast for the ones brave enough to get up so early in Japan. Given the reaction so far, it is bound to be a really nasty encounter.
The tweet in question is so FromSoftware, behaving in vague yet brooding tones: “Dark whispers echo from the Night’s wings,” promising that “some flames of redemption will burn away…something.” Burn away what? Who knows. So now players are dissecting every single word, trying to analyze if this means a new boss variant, a massive expansion, or just another crooked way from FromSoftware to frustrate players enough to hurl their controllers at the floor.
Reactions have been all over the place. Some, including Nicholas Balaich, just seem to revel in the agony: “I look forward to the pain.” Then, others plead for better rewards like Dippahh: “Let me earn a different starting weapon for my recluse, or SOMETHING. Relics suck.” And then Julius Smith gets all nostalgic: “Man, I missed fighting Everdark Adel. His moves were so good yet so difficult.” Yeah, “good” is one way to put it.
This shard of infinite chaos underhath these responses. DausZulkapli’s voice suggests foreboding of unfairness in the boss’s mechanics: “When I fought horse dude—3 fire place, 0 electric. I already know fighting this moth, 3 unrelated place, with 0 fire place lol.” Simp King Ken, on the contrary, is quite serious advocating for punishing people who rage quit even harsher: “You guys should up the penalty for rage quitting. Instant no Online for a Week.” Harsh, but fair.
Next thing we have is the mix of hype and salt. Luceize is confident: “Going to beat this first try on stream.” At the same time, Cpt. Zeon is done right now: “Cmon really? I still haven’t beaten Fulghor yet, I only got time for 1 game a day.” And how can one forget about the guy who straight-up bailed for Lords of the Fallen but still lingers within the replies: “Pls do lmk when the next solo game with depth launches.” Ouch.
The real question has to be–what even IS the Everdark Sovereign? Just another reskin? Or a crazy new nightmare? The tweet calls it a “version” of the Sentient Pest, which might be anything from just a slight change to a whole phase-two-from-hell situation. Given FromSoftware’s dominance in doing the latter, it’s probably the latter.
Only one thing seems to be certain: July 2025 is going to be one for the record books in infamy. Whether you’re more on the hype side, genuinely terrified, or just here for the memes, Elden Ring’s next update has already started the brew. And now we third have to make it through the wait. And, maybe, practice some dodges. A lot.
