All right, Nightfarers, sharpen those blades, and fill your flasks—Everdark Sovereign, a.k.a. Darkdrift Knight, is slated to arrive on Limveld on June 26, 2025. Judging by online reactions, players are either hyped to the skies or are already breaking out in cold sweats, knowing that this is yet another unforgiving challenge.
The announcement came just a little past the halfway mark in the day of daily Bandai Namco releases-at around 4:00 P.M. Central European Time (7 A.M. Pacific Daylight time, 11 P.M. Japan Standard Time)-teasing this star-studded nightmare. There was no word on whether this would be DLC, a free update, or just a cruel reminder from FromSoftware that pain is everlasting. But hey, it is Elden Ring: when has anything ever been easy?
The replies were utter chaos. Some players were already casting prayers for mercy (Az_Eaz: “God have mercy on our souls”), others were still wrestling with the main game (“Let me beat the base version first,” darat7861 tweeted). Then of course, it’s the debate- Is this even legit, or just a modder’s fever dream?
Now, here goes: user E112423 dredges up evidence that these enhanced boss files have actually been hidden inside the game’s code ever since the day after the update. So, no, they are not a mod: FromSoftware has always had the big picture in mind, and they must hide things. Remember how they “shadow-dropped” entire mechanics in past Souls games? Right? Sort of.
But not everyone seems happy about that. Lolfang1 just called the original Darkdrift Knight “the worst boss,” hoping this challenge version makes it more interesting while ProphetChaos714 seems to be starting some fights in the comment section à la invader duel. Typical Souls community.
Then there is the elephant in the room: remember omae_wa_mo_’s mention of the light spear? If history is any indication, that thing is going to one-shot everybody way before you say, “I-frames.”
