The answer to the eternal football conundrum will always be on the lips of the fans: Who shall grace the FC 25 cover? Answers have been pouring in, much like that stoppage-time counter-attack. EA Sports FC went on to pose a simple yet profound question on Twitter: “Who’s ready to make their mark? Let us know who should be on the cover of the next FC.”

The very first word to pop up on repeat, much like a glitch in Ultimate Team, is “Lamine Yamal.” The kid wonder from Barcelona has captured the imagination of the players, and many replies have screamed his name in all caps. One user said, “LAMINE. LAMINE. LAMINE YAMALLL,” while another added, “lamine is your best bet but EA should start taking more risks.” And, really, they could not be at more of a point. Staid choices for so many long years; maybe it is time for fresh faces.

Then there are Van Dijk calls; a Liverpool fan popped him up, tagging the obligatory #YNWA hashtag. Then comes the GOAT debate-some demand Lionel Messi for a “Last Dance” cover, others put forth Robert Lewandowski. And then there are wildcards-Bobby Bishop (yeah, Portsmouth striker) and Andy Cook (just because)-showing the matrices of respect in the lower leagues.

But some aren’t into the hype; some answers were downright underwhelming. “What difference does it make? I ain’t buying it anyhow,” said one breathing a shruggie, while another designated the game as “circus.” Straight punch! Another one dug in: “A dollar sign because these games are about money and are absolutely crap.” I mean, can’t really argue with them.

The funny thing, though, is how many didn’t know that Barcelona’s licensing deal with eFootball pretty much spells no Yamal. Persona non grata somehow arose in FCB_Mato, copy-pasting “Barca has a deal with e football so not possible” to literally every single Yamal suggestion out there. You’ve just gotta respect that dedication.

Then chaos ensued. Somebody suggested, “EA executives hanging from cranes” for the cover (yikes), while another insulted Spain and ran away. Classic Twitter.

Next steps? Surely EA will play it safe with a marketable pick-Jude Bellingham or Erling Haaland. But after all that passionate (and chaotical) reply business, maybe they should just go off-script and shock them all. At any rate, the show shall be worth watching during the cover reveal. The debate shall carry on until the game is finally made into our possession.
