Square Enix recently announced that the latest Dragon Quest title, plus the extended version, Definitive Edition, has made huge milestones in shipments and sales.

The official website states: “The young hero sets forth into an unknown world on a journey to unravel the mystery of his past…but the welcome he receives is far from warm. Upon revealing his identity to the King, the hero is branded as “The Darkspawn” and hunted by a relentless army. Fleeing from his pursuers, the hero assembles a band of endearing adventurers who believe he is actually the Luminary reborn. He and his newfound companions embark on a quest that will take them across continents and over vast oceans as they learn of an ominous threat facing the world.”

The Definitive Edition contains the base game, plus added content such as visiting other Dragon Quest words like IV and VIII, additional story quests, and more.

Square Enix revealed that Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age has shipped over 5.5 million copies around the world. These numbers include sales on all consoles plus the Definition Edition sales.

The publisher had only recently announced the game sold 4 million in November. At least 1.5 million sales were made in the past month.

The creator and game designer of the Dragon Quest series, Yuji Horii, commented on the new sales figures. Horri stated: “If I could ever go back in time to meet myself when I was still making the very first Dragon Quest, I would love to tell him, ‘In 30 years’ time, Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age has been released and loved by international fans beyond seas and languages.'”

The latest sale number shows just now many fans around the globe are enjoying the latest title. It has not only appealed to long-time fans but also new fans to the series.
