As promised, gamers received a new look at what many are calling Dragon Age 4 at The Game Awards in the form of a new official teaser trailer.

Unfortunately, not much was learned from this trailer. We still don’t have a full trailer, or any real concrete information on the plot. We don’t even know the game’s official title. It’s just called The Next Dragon Age in the video, which can be viewed below.

The trailer is just over a minute in length, but we do notice one thing right off the bat.

Varric is back!

This likely doesn’t surprise anyone. Varric Tethras is a dwarf and main party member in both Dragon Age 2 and Dragon Age Inquisition. He even served as something of a narrator for Dragon Age 2.

“I’ve faced tyrants and would be gods,” he says to start off the trailer. “See friends lose life and limb. But there’s always someone bent on breaking the world.”

We then see the BioWare logo and the music shifts.

A number of massive never before seen animals approach and the camera pulls back to show the back of someone’s armored legs.

“It’s time for a new hero,” Varric says. “No magic hand, no ancient prophecy. The kind of person they’ll never see coming. We’ve got your back. I’ve got your back.”

During these lines, we see a kingdom that doesn’t look familiar and a series of different characters with various kinds of weapons.

One of these appears to be a magic bow that fires fade arrows.

Varric’s line saying “I’ve got your back,” seems to indicate that he will once again be a main party member in this new game, though that is not confirmed.

“Demons, dragons, darkspawn,” he continues, “even the Dread Wolf.”

We then see Solas, from Dragon Age Inquisition, who has long since been rumored to be a main foe in this game, slowly turn and look into the camera.

“This is your story,” Varric says, as a simple looking Dragon Age logo appears.

There was no release window open, and the fact that we don’t even seem to have a working title for the game makes it appear as though we’re still a long ways off from this anticipated release.

“The world of Dragon Age needs a new hero,” BioWare said in the trailer’s official write up, “someone who can take on the evil forces threatening Thedas. Get a first look at some of the new locations you’ll discover and the factions fighting by your side in the next chapter of Dragon Age.”
