Doom: The Dark Ages surely will go down in history and linger and get remembered by the connoisseurs of slogging dragon-demons. So the latest trailer for this much-awaited Doom spin-off stunned us with an unannounced apparition: Serrat-translation, a dragon. Yes, we said a dragon. The Doom Slayer is not going to rip and tear hordes of Hellspawn alone anymore; there is now a flying, fiery beast who has taken the role of an assistant. Honestly speaking, it’s about time.
The trailer, available for viewing now, shows the Doom Slayer riding atop Serrat with great finesse as they traverse the skies, decimating the airborne demons as if it were just another Tuesday for them. This dragon isn’t just for show; Serrat has real firepower (literally again), frying his enemies down without so much as a scratch. If you thought Doom was too much before, just wait till you see Doom-level soaring on a dragon and blasting demons.
Doom: The Dark Ages, with a supporting trailer, will release on May 15 to thrill the players with a medieval revision of a usual Doom kick, casting away high-tech weapons for horrified and ancient-looking counterparts for massive hammer-shields, plus, you will always know how cruel the dragon is because he can have demons for breakfast.
With the speculation rolling in since the tease of The Dark Ages, one dragon would’ve been the last thing anyone imagined. Then again, remember the Doom we are talking about here; subtlety is never its strong suit. The game promises a “brutal re-imagination” of the Doom universe; well, if there ever was a brute, it’s riding a dragon into combat.
The trailer also provides a brief peek at the new enemies, and they appear to be as terrifying as ever. Awful and grotesque creatures belonging to a medieval nightmare stand ready to be turned to paste by the Doom Slayer (and his new scaly best friend). The locale is reeking of dark fantasy vibes-gothic castles, ruined cities with skies choked thick with smoke and fire. Somebody basically took Doom Eternal and dropped it in a vat of Berserk-inspired chaos.
The date? May 15th. No waits, no vague “coming soon” titles. Just a few weeks until we kill demons on an entirely new level.
What comes next? Well, if history repeats itself, then id Software would most likely have some more surprises tucked away for us prior to launch-who knows, maybe another weapon reveal, a deep dive into the story, because, yes, there actually is a story now about dragons. Either way, Doom: The Dark Ages is just getting crazier by the minute.
Marked it on May 15. Now load the shotgun (or the dragon) and get ready to rip and tear like it’s 20-800 years ago.
