Having been one of those demon-slaying hype trains, it has left the station-Unfortunately, DOOM: The Dark Ages is now out on release and spinning the fans in the most positive way possible. Possibly the most metal launch this year id Software and Bethesda went in fully with the launch and people are either meme-ing or begging for crossover skins.

Obsidian, being the creators of The Outer Worlds, started this whirl with a cheeky reference to the Spacer’s Choice jingle: “It’s not the best choice… it’s time to RIP AND TEAR!” he said, alongside an image filled with excitement for the launch. From then on, the tweet went insane-hordes of fans flooded the replies with requests for a DOOM Slayer skin in The Outer Worlds 2, to one guy just shouting “MOON MAN” for no discernible reason! Good old gaming Twitter.

One of the biggest recurring calls in the replies was fans imploring those two studios to make an in-game cosmetic compromise. “This should be an actual DOOM Slayer skin,” one went on to say, while another begged: “Can this badass art be a dynamic background for Xbox.” Yeah, same. If Xbox is not going to step up right now, what do we even stand for?

But you just know the entire gaming Twitter thread is never truly complete without the usual stomp: “remaster Fallout: New Vegas.” Then, as if by clockwork, a few desperate fans slid into the replies begging that Obsidian give their darling RPG the same treatment as DOOM. Somebody had the guts to tag Phil Spencer of Xbox into the madness and simultaneously suggest a wild crossover universe where DOOMguy shows up in Gears of War and Master Chief wanders into The Outer Worlds. Honestly? We would play that.

One scoundrel coming to pooh-pooh the train mentioned it to be “mid boomer slop.” Meanwhile, another user begged (maybe jokingly, maybe not) for Obsidian not to give The Outer Worlds 2 the “Avowed treatment.” Drama! Passion! And how totally unpredictable they are when a new game hits!

Amidst all that, Bethesda and id Software stayed mum, probably too busy figuring out how to divvy up all the DOOM niggineries from cash piles. One golden reply from Obsidian, though: “It’s not the best choice, but definitely a peak one,” tweaking their own Spacer’s Choice slogan to fit the demon-slaughtering vibe.

What’s next? There was more RIP AND TEAR, obviously. Whether you love The Dark Ages or just want to laugh at all the meme-ing, one thing’s crystal clear-the newest DOOM chapter has entered the pantheon of mythical game moments. Excuse us while we network a bit-who needs babysitting?
