But then, Blizzard started tweeting and the internet went berserk, at least the part of the internet that worships insanely detailed cosplay. The tweet was a Diablo cosplay of Mother by none other than @CinderysCosplay. Let’s just say… the gamerdom is flipping.
For one thing, the photo looks like a have been snatched from a game. One stray look and you would be swearing it to be a high-res render or a next-gen cinematic. But no, a real person was out and about. A real person, so accurate that she managed to morph herself into an entity straight out of Diablo’s nightmare realm. Detail: A-1. Atmosphere: Hellish. Reactions: Beyond words.
One player, @Lukepistol18, could’t have summed that perfectly: “Holy shit that’s a real person? That’s far better than most Hollywood creations.” And if anything, the guy might just be right. Hollywood spends millions creating their CGI, and here comes Cinderys conjuring it right off a movie set without so much as a bit of CGI, just makeup, fabric, and raw talent.
Then @OhHeyTerry totally confessed: “I thought this was a screenshot.” I thought so too, Terry. Interned with this large level of artistry; every shadow, every texture, every ghostly glow, likely came from the very depths of Hell. Even @YhuseilX5ever chimed in by calling Cinderys “la mejor cosplayer de las franquicias de Blizzard” (translation: “the best cosplayer of Blizzard franchises”). And honestly? I mean, can you contest it?
Of course, not all were gushes. @NicholasHanscom dropped a “She needs a good, ‘Sean Connerying’”—uh… we aren’t exactly sure what that means, but it sounds like a compliment? Maybe? Meanwhile, @GrishordGames was just puzzled: “These are cosplay photos? Holy hell that’s AMAZING!” Yep. That’s the general consensus.
Now for some background to the cosplay: Cinderys didn’t just slap some horns on herself and call it a day. Nah; that’s too easy. Very seriously, the armor, glowing effects, lighting that’s as if she’s actually exuding some unholy energy—everything in very fine detail. Also, kudos to the photographer, @omaruisfed, for a well-made shot: chef’s kiss.
Some comments weren’t all praise. @gemdrgn1_ thought it appropriate to launch into a rant about Diablo’s Battle Pass system (“PLEASE bring back the Battle Pass in Season 9!”), which… okay, fair, but maybe not a very relevant digression? Still, even in the middle of the rant, they couldn’t not acknowledge how sick that cosplay looked.
This is why cosplay is so big for gaming. This is not just dressing up—this is bringing characters to life in a way that their original creators might not even have thought of. Cinderys did not just cosplay Mother. She became Mother.
So yeah, check out that tweet if you’re one of the odd millions that still hasn’t. And keep the lights on before you hit the hay…just saying.
