A cryptic tweet has been released by Blizzard which had once again stirred up the fans of Diablo and Berserk. In short, the tweet goes: “You have been Branded,” followed by the hashtags #DiabloIV and #Berserk, all of which set the fan imaginations spinning about a possible crossover between the two dark fantasy RPGs and the legendary manga series. The image that was attached, coupled with an ominous bloody red symbol, carries the hype even more as the symbol strongly resembles the infamous Brand of Sacrifice from Berserk.
Berserk is a extremely brutal-dark manga written by Kentaro Miura (RIP): a story about Guts, the loner warrior cursed with a brand screaming calls for demons. It is rather behind the colours of being notorious in having relentlessly ghastly tones, hideous monsters, and violence-which fit all into the aesthetics of Diablo.
It is almost inevitable to have these contents inspired by Berserk within Diablo IV; it’s all cool and in having these franchises lay within gothic horror, tragic heroes, and nightmares.
We, no doubt, have other tweets that do not fulfill confirmation, yet they sound very excitingly suggestive. Berserk-Ish armor surely? Guts-inspired greatsword, most probably? Or, even an event with apostles (the demonic villains from Berserk) fighting in Sanctuary may be in store?
The possibilities are endless, and the Diablo community is already losing their minds in the replies-or so they would be, being that there are none. Oddly, Blizzard’s tweet is at zero replies at the time of writing, which is… odd. Either the post is brand new, or the fans are just too shocked to type.
This isn’t the first time Diablo has displayed berserk aspects. The Barbarian class has always been intended to be Guts-y, especially while brandishing mighty two-handed swords and with unyielding and relentless combat. Even the flavor the first two games seem to have taken right out of the pages of Miura-dark and bloody, blood soaked in despair.
A formal collaboration would just make it that much more official.
Needless to say, this is a perfect way for Blizzard to tease, so I guess we will be treated with waiting more months before the nitty-gritty are revealed. If this indeed goes to the cross between Berserk and Diablo, then it would probably be the best co-op adventure ever in the history of games.
Battling out in Diablo IV, but swinging Guts’ Dragonslayer sword or clad in Casca’s armor? That would really break the internet in terms of fan service.
For now, waiting is all we can do, and perhaps reread Berserk in preparation for the occasion. The selves of Blizzard are probably going to make this the ultimate love letter to dark fantasy fans from a game if the hint turns out to be true. If it isn’t, at least there is some pretty sick new wallpaper from it.
Wait for it: If something Blizzard knows how to do, it’s hype so much that we end up all crying out for more.
