Devolver Digital is packing their bags for Brazil. The indie publisher just announced they’re bringing three new co-op games to Gamescom Latam, and one of them is guaranteed to make fans very happy.

Heave Ho 2 is finally making its public debut. The original game turned simple rope-swinging into pure chaos when you threw friends into the mix. Now the sequel promises to do the same thing but bigger. Four players can team up this time around. That’s double the chaos potential.

But Heave Ho 2 isn’t traveling alone. Devolver’s bringing two other games that put friendship to the test.

“Alô Brasil! 🇧🇷 Estaremos na Gamescom Latam com 3 joguinhos daora: 💪 Heave Ho 2 (co-op divertido com a turma, até 4 jogadores) 📜 Dark Scrolls (plataforma de ação crocante com co-op para 2) 🍄 Shroom and Gloom (deckbuilder sombrio de 2 baralhos com vários mega-combos) De 30 abril a 3 de maio. Bora lá!” – @devolverdigital.com

Dark Scrolls sounds like it wants to scratch that action platformer itch. Two players can team up for what Devolver calls “crocante” action. That’s Portuguese for crispy. In gaming terms, that usually means tight controls and satisfying feedback. Think of those moments in co-op games where you and your partner nail a perfect sequence. That’s the feeling they’re chasing.

Shroom and Gloom takes a different approach entirely. It’s a deckbuilder, but with a twist that makes it perfect for the co-op treatment. Two separate decks work together to create massive combo chains. The “sombrio” (shadowy) theme suggests this isn’t your typical colorful card game. Dark fantasy vibes seem to be the goal.

This lineup tells a story about what Devolver thinks co-op gaming should be. These aren’t games where one person carries the team. They’re designed around shared struggle and shared victory. Each title forces players to actually cooperate rather than just exist in the same space.

Heave Ho 2 probably has the biggest expectations to meet. The first game became a streaming sensation precisely because it made failure hilarious. Watching four people try to coordinate a simple swing across a gap turned into comedy gold. The sequel needs to recapture that magic while adding enough new elements to justify its existence.

Dark Scrolls and Shroom and Gloom are wildcards. We don’t know much about either game yet. But Devolver rarely misses when it comes to picking interesting indie projects. Their track record speaks for itself.

The choice to debut these games in Latin America isn’t random. Gamescom Latam represents a growing market that big publishers are finally taking seriously. Brazil alone has over 100 million gamers. That’s larger than many entire countries’ populations.

Devolver’s Portuguese announcement shows they’re not just showing up to check a box. They’re speaking directly to Brazilian fans in their own language. “Joguinhos daora” roughly translates to “awesome little games.” It’s casual and friendly. The kind of language you’d use with friends.

This approach reflects how the gaming landscape has shifted. Latin American players aren’t just consumers anymore. They’re creators, streamers, and community leaders. Companies that recognize this early will build stronger relationships.

Co-op gaming fits perfectly into this cultural moment. Local multiplayer never really died in many parts of the world. While online gaming dominates headlines, sitting on a couch with friends remains the preferred way to play for millions of people.

Each of these three games seems designed around that experience. Heave Ho 2’s four-player support means bigger groups can join in. Dark Scrolls keeps things intimate with two-player focus. Shroom and Gloom offers something different for card game fans who want to share the experience.

Gamescom Latam runs from April 30 to May 3. That gives Devolver four days to show off what they’ve been working on. Expect hands-on demos and probably some classic Devolver weirdness in their presentation style.

The real test comes after the show ends. Can these games deliver on their co-op promises? Heave Ho 2 has nostalgia working in its favor, but Dark Scrolls and Shroom and Gloom need to prove themselves from scratch.

For now, Brazilian fans get first dibs on what could be some of the year’s best local multiplayer experiences. The rest of us will have to wait and see if these games live up to the hype Devolver is building.
