An exciting new collaboration has been announced between two Japanese developers. “Suda51” Goichi Suda and “Swery65” Hidetaka Suehiro have announced plans to create a horror game.
During an IGN Japan stream, the creators spoke about prior plans to work together. They first planned on developing a PlayStation VR game, but it was canceled. The pair have tried to work together in the past, but their socializing overwhelmed their game planning. Any ideas that were decided were quickly forgotten the next day, but that’s not the case for their newest announcement.
Suda51 is well-known for creating fan favorites such as killer7 and the No More Heroes series. He has experience as a developer, writer, and director.
Swery65 was one of the founding members of Access Gamers. His experience also includes working as a developer, writer, and director. One of his most well-known titles is Deadly Premonition, which was released in 2010.
Suda51 and Swery65 began brainstorming ideas for their horror game collaboration during the livestream.
The most significant announcement was the name of the game: Hotel Barcelona. Suda51 decided this was the official title midway through the livestream, to which Swery65 agreed. The game will feature a hotel in Barcelona, or possible another location, where each room has a unique feature.
The game’s main inspiration is Siren, a survival horror series initially released in Japan in November 2003, with also some inspiration from David Lynch, an award-winning filmmaker.
Other details include a budget of $1 million and is easy to pick up and play. The pair discussed a possible release on mobile.
Other ideas for the game are still in development. The livestream consisted mostly of vague ideas and even a mention of Devolver Digital publishing the game.
Gonna need @SUDA_51 and @Swery65 to pitch us this mysterious game we’re supposedly publishing.
Name a time and place, gentlemen. https://t.co/duvQWVj1CO

Devolver Digital quickly took to Twitter this morning to question the idea. It was news to the publisher that they would be releasing the game, but did not refuse the potential proposal.
Devolver Digital has quickly risen in popularity due to its unique E3 “anti-conference” featuring fictional host and “Chief Synergy Officer” Nina Struthers.
Swery65 and Suda51 discussed plans for next week regarding Hotel Barcelona. Swery65 plans to develop more concepts for the game, while Suda51 will create an official logo.
Hotel Barcelona is still early in development with no planned launch date.
