Bungie now goes ahead and drops another hype bomb into the world—Destiny 2’s new expansion, The Edge of Fate, will be out on July 15. And, man, they are really taking it out there beyond the edge of the solar system! A mysterious new world awaits exploration, and the trailer? Well, it is really Destiny, louder than usual.

What is this new zone about? Bungie has been pretty vague about this, with the teaser making the interesting landscapes look very real with floating ruins, glowing alien plants, and plenty of hangers-on to blast you into dust in space. The name Edge of Fate sniffs of high stakes. Could it mean end-of-the-universe stakes? Potentially. Since destiny lore is always into those cosmic doom scenarios.

This being way more than patrol zones. Past expansions have certainly given us cause to think that Bungie enjoys hiding secrets in new locations. Remember the Dreaming City’s full curse cycle? Or Europa’s Clovis Bray nightmare fuel? This planet is certainly going to feature some wild mechanics, maybe even a raid or dungeon attached to it. And honestly, the community will be already well into the hyper-data-mine mode once this goes live.

Interesting times for the launch itself. Usually, July tends to be somewhat quiet for game releases, and here comes Destiny to claim summer. Absolutely perfect as seasonal content is winding down. So the players will be needing something kind of chunky to sink their teeth into, and Edge of Fate certainly sounds like it is bringing the buffet: new story, new gear, and hopefully not another grind-fest (we kid, it’s Destiny).

That trailer soundtrack, another time? Chef’s kiss. Bungie soundtrack team has never screwed up. Just imagine if the vibes in the teaser are a prelude to the game: chills.

What is still unknown: Are we getting a new enemy faction? Are those Darkness pyramids finally up to something? And most importantly—will my Guardian be looking sharp as hell? July 15 is far too late. I guess pre-orders pop up pretty much immediately after that. So keep those wallets ready.

Until then, grind those season pass levels. Have to be ready for whatever insanity awaits us at the edge of everything. Destiny is going bonkers again, and honestly, we’re all here for it.

So pencil it in; keep the evenings open and maybe begin stocking those snacks. Edge of Fate is crashing down hard, making the Destiny infinite whatever-ark much bigger—or weirder. Probably both.
