Hanging around for your fireteam swapping gears as they go between two encounters in Destiny 2? Yeah, every one of us has been in a situation like that. So if your mates are busy fine-tuning their loadouts, what do you do then? Just stand there like an astronaut, or would you like to do the perfect emote to kill some time?
Recently, Bungie tweeted and left the community buzzing on what emotes does the players use while waiting for their teams to finish. Let’s be real- that is one key component of the Destiny 2 experience. Whether you’re the biggest veteran raider or some dude grinding strikes, those few seconds (or minutes, if your fireteam is indecisive) can feel like an eternity. So why not feature that in style with an emote?
A few Guardians go for the classics-old reliable sitting emote-because nothing says “I’m patient” quite like plopping down in the middle of a raid. The others? breakdance, flip coins, or bring out a little broom to sweep the floor. Yup, some wildly emotes in Destiny 2; there is a whole lot of favorites that players can come up with.
Then you have the crazies high-energy spammers—the kind of Guardians who just spam the most annoying possible emotes. You know who I’m talking about: nonstop air guitar, ceaseless dabbing, or that one dude who won’t stop selfie-ing all over a boss fight. Charm, folks–love it or hate it.
What makes them really top-of-the-line with emotes are the ones that really do something. Spotted anyone using “point” to show spawns for enemies? Or “wave” for get someone’s attention? Emotes aren’t always for fun; they’re sometimes very stealthy tactics.
Of course they would, Bungie is perfectly aware of how much emotes love players after putting forward something new every season to keep the list fresh. From hilarious dances to highly cinematic animations, the new additions keep coming. And make no mistake, some of us have spent way too many Rainbow Dusts (or Silver) on the shiny emote that everyone has needed. No regrets.
What, then, does one need to conclude? Not emote while waiting for your fireteam? You haven’t lived. It is the best way to showcase your personality, annoy your friends, or simply kill time with style. And hey, at least you haven’t been reduced to just standing there like a mannequin.
Next time you find yourself in a situation where you have to wait, hit ’em with your best move. Whether that’s some slick dance or a dramatic bow, make something happen in those downtime moments. After all, that’s what Destiny 2 is all about-your emote game should be on lock.
Now go forth, Guardian. And don’t forget to emote responsibly. (Or don’t. Chaos is fun, too.)
