Big announcement traded in PAX East by Randy Pitchford and now players are losing any sleep thinking about it. Could it really be that Borderlands 4 will be the very next $70 title, like what Nintendo and Microsoft have started to do? Definitely looks like the $70 price tag was being seriously considered.

Pitchford never said outright about the pricing, but definitely hinted at a major league pricing for Borderlands next. It certainly never really cracked me up. Nintendo started with Tears of the Kingdom, Microsoft went with Starfield, and now Sony first-party games are sneaking up there. So why shouldn’t Gearbox go ahead and dip its toes too?

On the other hand, Borderlands has always justotyping as a winner without the very fine print. Big, chaotic, loot-filled adventures for 100+ hours of gameplay at a $60 ticket price does hurt very much if going further to $70 when you take into consideration how much DLC these games will probably accumulate.

Before hastily calling them corporate crooks, Pitchford said costs really have gone up in this industry. Games have become Bigger, more detailed and harder too, to make compared to a decade ago, so maybe the price hike was a must. Still, hard to take for a lot of people.

And let’s present the honest truth here- Borderlands 4 isn’t even officially announced. Rumored, leaked, speculated upon with Gearbox apparently doing everything in their power to keep their cards close to their chests. So Pitchford already talking price? Interesting. Maybe we’re closer to an announcement than we think.

Meanwhile, the fan base is already splitting to say if a $70 Borderlands will be worth it. If packed with content, then hell yes; otherwise, it becomes almost impossible to justify paying an extra buck for what could very well be just another looter-shooter, not to mention pricier DLC.

If $70 really becomes the $price for Borderlands 4, there won’t be a second one. This looks like the new norm whether we recognize it, so maybe we should start hoarding our $10 now, because games are getting more expensive, and sort of claiming that Gearbox is the latest in having said so.

Until official announcements arrive, we will just have to hold out. Judging from Randy Pitchford’s comments, Borderlands 4 is really just around the corner — and buying it may cost you far more than you bargained for.
