Bungie has issued an unexpected update to the Spire of the Watcher dungeon of Destiny 2, and it has Guardians increasingly grumbling-the bad kind of talking. The biggest change? Enemies now drop weapons as loot from Holofoils in Explore mode to Adept variants in higher difficulties. Sounds good; well, so much for the community’s response!
Back to the nitty gritty: before this update, players were grinding the dungeon after the encounter for that sweet loot; now, mid-fight, enemy weapons can drop, which should mitigate farming. Holofoils-they are shiny animated weapon skins-are in drops for Explore; Adept and Holofoil Adept weapons are at tougher levels. But that was the last fierce proclamation from Bungie: “Good hunting, Guardians.”
Speaking of which, Destiny players have been throwing the suspicious glare that this update has attracted. rabidpuppy literally said: “I ran an entire Explore mode run and got nothing. Zip. Nada.” For some, that stings. Another Guardian, by the name of Lee Bailie, made a big deal out of a spawn issue and called out Bungie for bad testwork: “Force me to start this nonsense all over again,” they tweeted, exasperated.
Oh, the sarcasm! MattGoesBuck gave the most glorious backhanded compliment to Bungie: “Wait? Loot dropping from enemies in a looter shooter? WILD.” Others, like Andy (iamGotham_), couldn’t resist the comparison. “‘The Division,’ where enemies drop loot like candy. In ‘Destiny,’ you have to do raids, GMs, and Trials just to get a decent roll,” they joked.
Also, Arena. ChibiTheRaiju-like-for-others is pleading with Bungie to add dungeon armor to the loot pool: “I wanna get the Hunter cloak,” they tweet, a sentiment shared by many. Behind this stands yet another group of people who still have no clue how Holofoils are supposed to work, with xblvcksonx demanding Bungie toss out “a small chart or something.”
DredgenShinobi gave glowing praise and called for it to be in all activities, but there was one caveat: a slightly harder Explore mode for triumph progression. “The game has become overtuned,” they said.
So what’s the verdict? The update sounds triumphant, but Destiny players have heard that before. Between buggy respawns, inconsistency of drops, and the usual Bungie ambiguity, it has been a classic Bungie community frenzy. Will Bungie fix the issues and complaints? Only time will tell. The Guardians, meanwhile, are at the grindstone again-hoping the loot gods shine down upon them.
Hey, at least it’s not another Telesto bug. Yet.
