For all the gamers out there, stay fastened; these are the moments of either celebrations or crying into your empty wallets. Deathloop, the critically acclaimed first-person shooter by Arkane Lyon, should be for FREE on the Epic Games Store in a couple of hours. Did I say it? Yes, THAT free. It’s in less than an hour. Keep your alarms on.
So what’s the deal about Deathloop? To those who have been living under a rock (or maybe just trying to avoid time loops, understandable), this adorable and stylish first-person shooter lets you play as Colt, who is chained in eternity on an oceanic island called Blackreef. His job is to take out the eight Visionaries in one single day so he may finally break the loop. Sounds easy, doesn’t it? Stealth, action, and pretty brutal puzzles levels-of-wits keep away from it. From there, the online player can invade your game as Julianna, Colter’s adversary, and annoy the hell out of you.
The game received an 88 on Metacritic, with critics applauding its novelty and ’60s aesthetic. But as with any game worthy of being played, some didn’t like it-principally because they thought the combat was too easy; others felt the repetition dull. And just don’t get me started on the whole plot twist involving Colt and Julianna’s relationship.
And now we are going to go unpack hype because this is all over the place. A good chunk of the community is hyped. @joshsch19 aptly put it: “Yay! Go check this game out folks, it’s a lot of fun. Especially their multiplayer gimmick.” The hilarious side includes @realdiscodude: “Had this on my wishlist, glad I didn’t buy it there lul.”
Then @slotslv is already there waiting to rub it in the faces of the recent buyers: “Imagine the reaction of people who bought this game recently seeing this 🤣.” Oof. Then @AussieGamesOnYT is lamenting for the day-one backers: “I feel bad for people who brought this game full priced when the game came out in 2021 💔.” Ouch.
Some hold a different opinion. @Gumbgraal came with a shade: “Just post the key art already lil bro, we don’t care abt this dead, mid games.” Harsh, dude. Meanwhile, @NyanSquidd is sticking to their guns on the Epic boycott: “They put so many games on there for free but no amount of banger games could make me use Epic Games launcher.” Commitment or stubbornness? You decide.
And then there’s the confused side. @SenpaiGamingYT sighed in wonder, “What is that game about. Never heard of it.” Seriously, how? Though kudos to @powerslwve for the quick answer: “Basically you’re stuck in an endless loop, and to end this you must k1ll some leaders and their soldiers. It’s placed in a kind of futuristic year 50s… it’s a fun game.” Simple and to the point.
And someone is calling it down for a server crash. @Banished_Makara casually remarked, “And it crashed the servers because of it iirc.” Yeah, I guess so. Remember when GTA V went free? Madness. Pure madness.
So, what do you say? If you sat going on and off about Deathloop, this is the free chance to grab it. Whether you love it, hate it, or skip it awkwardly into the giant backlog (looking at you, @Soulbound_TV), it somehow counts as a good deal. Just brace for the Epic Store going down at the hands of eager gamers.
Now, if you happen to be one of those rare few actually willing to shell out full price with the love of Epic, @chumberland has to salute you: “I’m gonna buy it full price rn because I really love and support Epic Games ❤️.” Do you, champ.
So, there you have it, the scoop, folks. Hit the claim button before the loop resets, and you miss it. Or don’t. It’s all up to you.
