Something is going on about Xbox Game Pass, and right in the middle of it all, it dropped Clair Obscur Expedition 33. There has also been a tweet by Xbox Game Pass announcing the release of the title, saying, “PERFECT! Your battle in Clair Obscur Expedition 33 begins TODAY, followed by replies of hype, criticism, and everything in between.”
Now, the hype train is totally not an imaginary thing. Ambrosia (@a_mbrossia) called it ‘hands down fun as hell’ and has praised the music; Andre (@AndreLSS91) has gone ahead of declaring it “GOTY 2025.” Talk about confidence! Soulbound TV (@Soulbound_TV) had a mood, saying that they will cancel all their plans for the next 72 hours.
Others are evidently not convinced. People like Agustin Roa (@Agrfor51) are currently struggling with mechanics, even stating, “I cant parry.” Meanwhile, MacSiims (@MacSiims) said that she hated the fact that they can only choose three characters out of six states, “I hate making a choice in the characters I play”. Tough choices, I feel ya!
And then we also have this “turn based combat” argument. Damn. Taffer (@BKtaffer) took a swing with, “Turn based? Is this a board game?” and, as expected, unleashed the defenders. Jorge came right back with “Turn based combat with great design >>>>>>> Everything else,” and DM told Taffer he should take a “lesson in gaming.” Ouch.
$PSDW_SOL (@PSDW_SOL) was also all about performance issues, saying PC version was “horrible,” but others, like John Blue (@JBoss293), defended it with “game is exceptional.” Well, a classic throwdown, Xbox vs PlayStation, and also with $PSDW_SOL by saying, “Expedition 33 > Oblivion Remastered,” which…okay, whatever.
The general visual treatment is described by LG KarimCheese (@KarimCheese) as : “Cinema 😮💨🔥” on the one hand, while 👽🇵🇱🇺🇦🇪🇺 (@pilifczarg) on the other declared it “looks tragic like from Xbox 360.” A bit harsh, but hey, opinions are like controllers-everyone’s got one.
What, then, was the final word? One thing is clear; there has been a divide on the matter of Expedition 33, but there is no debate what the buzz it has generated around itself.
Whether you love turn-based RPGs or think they should have vanished in the Stone Age, one thing is for sure; Xbox Game Pass sure did give its audience something to chatter about. Excuse me while I really need to check what the heck is going on. Guess my weekend might be getting canceled, huh?
