Cities: Skylines is a glorious city management simulation that has easily wrested control of the genre from Electronic Arts SimCity series.  Building deep cities with efficacious traffic patterns emerging from your strategy is something that never gets old, and the developer Colossal Order has done well in adding continued depth to the game with a series of expansions and DLC’s that push the boundaries of strategy and adaptation.

Something that should be pointed out prior to continuing is that Colossal Order brings features to everyone with new expansions, so owners that only have the base game also continue to benefit from their continued benevolence, regardless of if they’re willing to continue to fork over the cash to get specific functions.  This practice is unfortunately rare, and consumers would be wise to get behind such developers to stymie the nickel-and-diming that has become ever-more lucrative for developers.

Soapbox aside, this is the 26th addition to the city manager and the fifth time that Colossal Order has created a DLC that highlights the community’s work, with all of the proceeds going to the creator of the content.

The creator, that operates on the Colossal Order forums as ‘AmiPolizeiFunk’ has crafted thousands of custom buildings for the community to use for free as mods, and has amassed a following for his diligence and creativity that he applies to his work, and has since the game launched in early 2015.

This content pack, titled ‘Content Creator Pack: Modern City Center‘ is a fantastic opportunity for the community to properly thank ‘AmiPolezeiFunk’ for his thousands of creations that litter the community mod forum on Steam.

Beyond that, this weekend is a fantastic opportunity for those that have yet to pick up Cities: Skylines to dip their proverbial toes in the water, and see what the game has to offer.  Steams free weekend has already begun, and the opportunity will close on Sunday, November 11th.

From sprawling green pastures just begging for would-be mayors to develop a pretentious neighborhood with appropriately high taxes for the neighborhood, which is the cost of the privilege of living there, or if they just want to recreate the mess that is modern-day Detroit, Michigan, Colossal Order offers the tools necessary for gamers to craft whatever city is in their mind.

From utopia to dystopia, the choice very much lies in the hands of the player.  Bear in mind, however, that traffic becomes a nightmare to manage if you’re not wise about continued development and how traffic should flow through your neighborhoods to shopping and office districts.

If nothing else, this weekend gives you a terrific opportunity to see what all of the buzz has been about, or even pick it up on the cheap for only $7.49.
