CD Projekt Red‘s latest AAA game, Cyberpunk 2077, released earlier this month, and it’s been one of the biggest disasters in recent memory. Shortly after the game was released, players discovered a massive amount of bugs, glitches, and hard crashes, specifically those who were playing on the base versions of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and while there are issues for players using newer hardware, most of the issues have been experienced on Sony and Microsoft’s respective last-gen consoles.
While speaking during a recent company conference call, Adam Kicinski, who is the CEO at CD Projekt Red, discussed Cyberpunk 2077’s multiplayer expansion, saying that, while it is in development, their main focus is fixing the base game with a series of hotfixes, some of which have been applied already.
“At the moment please let us handle the situation, and please let us make some more assessments – [multiplayer is] still ahead of us; we don’t know yet, and we’re now focused on improving Cyberpunk. We’ll discuss this early next year.
“About multiplayer, first and foremost we haven’t declared any date yet, and as I said before it’s hard to judge now. We’re in a situation which wasn’t been planned, and we’ll have to reassess where we are, and that’s the plan for January. So now we are managing the situation of the single-player, we are working on patches and communication, and to refocus on gamers. We have to sit and discuss.”
Back in November, CDPR’s CEO gave a few details about Cyberpunk 2077’s upcoming multiplayer expansion, where he said that it won’t be an add-on, but rather, it’ll be its own AAA release, thus furthering the speculation that its business model will resemble that of Rockstar’s for Grand Theft Auto V, which has been a tremendous financial success.
“It’s a separate dedicated production, a big production. It’s another independent production and an independent team of people works on it. I said already we are not focusing right now on talking too much about other future products, products that are to be released after Cyberpunk. So please be with us in the first quarter of next year when we plan to share some strategy update. And I believe Cyberpunk multiplayer will be possible.”
While Cyberpunk 2077 is available now, it was recently removed from the PlayStation Store, so if you’re a PS4/5 user, you won’t be able to purchase the game digitally, but you can buy physical versions of the game. Regarding when the game will be fixed, CDPR has said that they’re planning to update it with two huge fixes, one in January, and another in February.
