When Cyberpunk 2077 is released in November, it’ll be CD Projekt Red‘s first AAA release since The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt launched back in 2015, and while the two games take place in worlds that aren’t similar to one another, some are concerned that CDPR’s upcoming first-person RPG will feel similar to their previous release.

While speaking with Game Informer, Cyberpunk 2077’s level designer, Max Pears, talked about how CD Projekt Red’s upcoming release will feel different from The Witcher 3, saying that players will have more freedom in Night City.

“You played the role of Geralt; you had the journal, fought the monsters, had the two types of swords – silver and steel. Here it’s more about giving the player freedom. The most exciting part is not only are there so many different ways to play – it’s ways to upgrade yourself, to tell your story with who you are fashion-wise. It’s the weapons you’re going to use, and deciding if you’re going to spend your time crafting special ones or finding mods. I think it’s just about making sure that we represent that freedom, making players well aware that this is different from the Witcher franchise, that it is exciting to be your cyberpunk in this world.”

Barring any further delays, Cyberpunk 2077 is currently scheduled to launch on current-gen consoles in November. Also, it’s worth noting that the current-gen version of the game will be playable on next-gen consoles via backward compatibility.

“With the recent reveal of next-generation Xbox and PlayStation consoles’ launch dates we wanted to remind everyone that Cyberpunk 2077 will be playable on those systems on November 19th,” said CD Projekt Red on Twitter. “Almost like a launch title, right?”

As of this writing, there isn’t a firm release date for the next-gen version of Cyberpunk 2077, but it is scheduled to be released for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X sometime next year, with the game’s multiplayer expansion scheduled to be released one year later, as CD Projekt Red has said that it’ll be added sometime in 2022.

On Saturday, CDPR revealed a new character, named Saburo Arasaka, with the following description: “Born in Tokyo in 1919. At the age of 158, he still reigns at the top of Arasaka in the world in 2077. He built Arasaka into a great empire in his generation.”
