The hype is very real indeed: Capcom has released the Capcom Fighting Collection 2, sending heads into a mad fury. The collection offers eight classic fighting titles, paying homage to a glorious phase in the arcade-brawler history. And if one wants to combine some nostalgia with some fresh tunes, yours is the chance-one or two of the original soundtracks of Capcom Fighting Collection 1 & 2 are now available.
But the collectors will attest to the fact that it does not end at the glitz and glamour. We are talking about the titles that essentially birthed a genre, the kind of games you used to play by chucking quarters into an arcade machine back in the day. Now? All cleaned up, ready to roll, and situated in one place: Gone are the days of scrounging for an old disc on eBay or crossing fingers on another re-release. Capcom just threw some fighting-game awesomeness at us all in one target-hitting buffet.
Of course, players had thoughts—some were for it, some were really… asking. Like, so many requests. The replies under Capcom’s announcement tweet ranged from celebrations to outright demands. Few complimented the music calling it “perfect,” BUT THEN, BEGGING FOR Street Fighter SKINS TO RETURN TO Fortnite started. Immediate begging. One guy tagged both the Street Fighter and Fortnite accounts, lamenting, “To celebrate let’s get the street fighter skins back in the Fortnite item shop.” Desperation, I say.
Then all these old-timer fanboys came up with lifelong nuggets of wisdom. One plainly stated that referring to Alpha 3 Upper as “iconic” was wrong; it was the arcade with rollback that really deserved inclusion. Another said Capcom Fighting Collection 1 still doesn’t actually have that quality-of-life update it was promised. Ouch. Capcom, do you hear that?
Then there were those that just vibed in, declaring Capcom vs. SNK 2 and Power Stone as GOATs of the collection. And honestly? They deserve to be called that.
So here’s the nitty-gritty: why does this collection matter? Because it isn’t just yet another season of some company squeezing every penny out of you. This is preservation. These games comprise fighting game history, and having them all in one place (and soundtracked!) will grant the new generation the experience of what made these games truly legendary; no more scouring for ancient hardware or spending two days trying to get legit emulation running-just unfiltered fighting game greatness.
If you’ve ever thrown a Hadouken or spent time refining combos, this thing is for you. And if you haven’t? Then well…you should really consider coming up to speed.
Forgive me, Capcom, but in the name of gaming, please bring those Street Fighter skins back to Fortnite. The people have spoken.
