On Monday, Activision and Infinity Ward announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s fourth season is being delayed, saying that “now is not the time” to launch a new season. They join fellow industry giants such as EA and Sony, who both recently announced delays of their own, one of which was going to be the PlayStation 5’s reveal event.

“While we all look forward to playing the new seasons of Modern Warfare, Warzone, and Call of Duty: Mobile, now is not the time,” said Activision regarding season four’s delay. “We are moving the launches of Modern Warfare Season 4 and Call of Duty: Mobile Season 7 to later dates. Right now it’s time for those speaking up for equality, justice and change to be seen and heard. We stand alongside you.”

Originally, the fourth season for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone were set to launch on Wednesday, June 3. As of right now, Activision and Infinity Ward haven’t announced a new launch date for MW’s fourth season, but it likely won’t be delayed for more than a few weeks.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone’s fourth season will add Captain Price as a new operator at launch, while Gaz will be added to the game at a later date. Because of their affiliation with British SAS, both Gaz and Captain Price will likely be added as Coalition operators.

There are a handful of new maps that are coming to Modern Warfare when season four launches and they’re listed below.

Modern Warfare Maps:

  • Scrapyard
  • Oil Rig
  • Broadcast
  • Garden
  • Harbor

Gunfight Maps:

  • Drainage
  • Train
  • Trench
  • Townhouse

Some of the maps listed above already exist in Call of Duty: Warzone, but they haven’t been added to Modern Warfare’s multiplayer rotation. Of course, Scrapyard was included in the recent season four trailer for Warzone.

A few changes are coming to Warzone as well, one of which being that players will be able to pick up guns on Warzone’s map — Verdansk — that they won’t be able to obtain via their loadouts. Also, new items will be added to the map.

Again, there hasn’t been a new date announced for season four, but it’s realistic to assume that the new date will be revealed sometime in the coming days, and perhaps as late as sometime next week. But, as previously mentioned, the launch date shouldn’t be delayed for any longer than a few weeks, as it’ll probably still launch sometime later this month.
