Zombie fans, brace yourselves as Call of Duty has just announced perhaps one of the grand announcements—GRIEF mode is making a comeback after being away for over a decade. Did you hear that? On May 29, ever since the word got out, the rage fest all over on the internet has been screaming.

For those who never had the pleasure of basking in the golden years of Zombies, GRIEF was that ultimate stomping ground for trolls. Two teams of four players not always fighting the undead but sometimes each other by sabotaging, stealing kills-anything that just made the competitor team go crazy. Ugly, chaotic, and yet there was some beauty to it. After years of begging, activision and Treyarch finally relented.

In that regard, of course, many are unhappy. Replies to the announcement tweet vary from hyped, salty to downright confused; others like @rgbclash_xyz are already holding a celebration of toxicity: “Get ready for salty tears, rage quits, and legendary trash talk, the most toxic fun you will ever have.” The others <> calmly muttered, “Woo more PvP garbage.” Ouch.

This whole thing was followed shortly after by AI drama. Groups of players were joking and chatting about how the GRIEF logo looked a little off. Like did a robot make this? @Cosmic_Brucey had said without any restraint: “Not only is the logo horrendously bad for grief, but how is it you can type in the AI prompt however you want and it still comes out bad?” @Starlightrainz demanded quite severely, “Please replace the logo; generative AI sucks.” That’s interesting indeed.

Not every feedback has been crushing. A few fans are asking for more as @SilverChambers stated, “Now just give us turned and it’ll be perfect.” Then there’s @CloggedToilet1, who has wild ideas for griefer antics, “a score streak where a bot attack helicopter attacks and it’s kinda like a short boss fight.” Treyarch take note.

Then there come the cheater complaints. @LaflahiM said: “It’s time to consider solving the problem of cheaters using Cronus on console and Aimbot on PC because Call of Duty Warzone BO6 has the first and largest cheating community in the world!” Fair utterance.

So what’s the verdict? Either it will be the best thing to happen in Zombie history, or it will undergo an ontological competition of Call of Dutylike déjà-vu. May 29 is going to be interesting regardless. Will it live up to nostalgia? Or will AI logos haunt our dreams? The only way to find out is by gathering your squad, loading it up, and prepping yourself for one of the most chaotic Zombies experiences for many years.

And in case you are still undecided, just keep @rgbclash_xyz’s words in your head as a reminder: “GRIEF is back to ruin your friendships and sanity.” Precisely.
