Fans have been speculating when we’ll be able to get our hands on the upcoming World of Warcraft: Shadowlands expansion since the day the content was announced. While Blizzard has given a good amount of looks into what we can expect with the expansion, a release date just never came with any of the announcements.
Until today! Blizzard has finally announced that the World of Warcraft: Shadowlands expansion will be releasing worldwide on October 27th, 2020, exactly two months from today!
You can watch the release date trailer below. While it doesn’t give any further information, it contains the most important bit of information yet released about the Shadowlands expansion with its official announcement of the release date. Otherwise, there isn’t anything new going on in the trailer more than just another peek at the beautiful aesthetics of the Shadowlands.
Fans have been waiting to get their hands on Shadowlands for quite some time, and now the day is dangerously close. More than anything, this also presses into the matter of the pre-patch that we can expect to see soon. While there isn’t an official release date on that yet, fans can expect to hear more soon.
Despite there not being an official date for pre-patch, fans are able to guess that we won’t have to wait much longer – if nothing else, we know without a doubt that it will be arriving before October 27th. Given that pre-patches tend to drop about four to six weeks before an expansion, it narrows it down even further.

That means that we can expect to see a pre-patch rather soon as well. Likely we’ll see it about a month or so from now, sometime in mid to late September, depending on how ready Blizzard is to ship it out.
Pre-patch is also set to be a doozy, with worldwide events and Scourge invasions as a result of the actions that Sylvanas takes in the cinematic release trailer. Players should expect tons of new events, questlines, and the like for pre-patch as the game gets closer and closer to the Shadowlands release.
Knowing, however, that this is 2020, many are concerned that there could be a pushback on the release date. Thankfully, that seems like it might be rather unlikely. Given how soon the release date is from launch, and how hesitant Blizzard already was to announce the date, they likely already are rather close to done with the title.
Many are also still hoping to be taken onto the beta so that they can test these changes out firsthand. While that might remain unlikely, the expansion itself is so close that there isn’t much more patience required!
If you can’t wait to get your hands on new content for the game, the PTR is active with plenty of changes and prepatch events that you can enjoy. Do be aware that this is the test realm, so your performance may vary, but it’s a great way to test the new content for Blizzard while getting a first look!
